Only a matter of time before he gets an offer that is too good to refuse. Hope Dr. Bradley has his list of candidates just as Ron keeps for coaching candidates. If he leaves, I'll be pretty sad as he's done a helluva job here. Wish he was around during my time as a student... I have a feeling our trajectory would have been a little different. SIU's AD also on the list.

The 11 candidates from the article are:

* John Cordova, sports management group director, Coca-Cola
* Anthony Hernandez, deputy athletics director, University of Miami
* Rory Hickok, deputy athletics director, University of Nevada
* Gerard Koloskie, former deputy director of athletics/senior associate athletics director, UNLV
* Mario Moccia, director of athletics, Southern Illinois University
* Marlin Musch, director of college, amateur and junior player development, Nike Golf
* George Nelson, associate athletics director, U.S. Air Force Academy
* Ronald Prettyman, athletics director, Indiana State University
* James Sarra, deputy director of athletics, University of Texas at San Antonio
* Christopher Walker, associate athletic director/development, Washington State
* Matthew Whisenant, deputy director of the athletic department, University of Wyoming

Losing RP would be a devastating blow to ISU. Come on, Dr. B, pony up whatever he asks for to keep him here!!!

so true, I would hope he would see it's better here than there, unless he really does want to move further west. We really have a lot of good things happening. Would be terrible to see him leave now.

And one thing about New Mexico State, they're in the WAC and the WAC SUCKS.

You know it is going to happen at some point. Let's hope it's three strikes you're out and we've got one more to go. As we all know, with 1A-1AA football hanging by a thread, this is one of the most critical times EVER for ISU sports. It would be nice to have Ron get us thru that. Having said that, I hope he stays until he retires~

While I don't wish him bad luck in his job search, but I won't be upset if he doesn't get hired and stays in Terre Haute. However, like Jason said, as talented as he is, it is only a matter of time before he gets hired away from us.

Why is everyone so convinced it's "eventually" going to happen? Not saying Prettyman is over the hill by any means, but thinking he might be nearing an age where he is more likely to think about retirement than his next AD gig.

When you are hot you are hot. Coaches usually have a prime "Window of Opportunity" to move on to bigger and better things. RP has a good if not an excellent track record here as an AD and this is probably his prime time. All of the athletic programs are doing well and the NCAA doesn't seem to be sniffing on our doorstep like so many others. Our state budget only allows us to be a training ground for good coaches, AD's and others in charge. ISU's biggest challenge is when we lose one to replace them with the same kind of people who just got hired away.

I actually tend to agree with this ^ however I'm not convinced that Ron Prettyman thinks Indiana State is in a great fiscal situation with relation to athletics and some of the changes coming our way in the NCAA. Perhaps he would just assume avoid being connected with any "major" athletic decisions that will have to be made in the next couple years. Get out while the goings good... Just a thought.

I mean he's got a baseball construction project that is incomplete, a track and field project that is incomplete, a football stadium in dispare and the Hulman Center that needs work. I will leave the indoor track our of the discussion - he's going to have to make a tough decision about the football program.

He could take another job and avoid answering to all of this.

Yeah, he could feel like the battle here is too insurmountable. Remember, he was one of 27 (of 345) that voted against autonomy.

I have to believe that is what is the case here Jason. Hate to speculate on this sort of thing, but if your asking for a reason why other than money and new challenges then this would have to be the case!

Indiana State, we love them and they do a lot with less but we all know we have many obstacles in our foreseeable future!

I can only think of two reasons why RP would take the NM State job ___ IF it's offered...

I believe their current endowment is ~ twice the size of States AND NM St is essentially the '2nd choice' of schools w/in New Mexico.
NMexico has about 1/3 the population that Indiana has... I'd hazard a guess that the only school that draws MORE attention than the Aggies
is Univ of New Mexico...

Other than those reasons, WHY go to Las Cruces? Their primary confered (WAC) is abysmal --- though they SHOULD dominate it...
Their football conference (SunBelt) is outside the power structure.

Looks like Prettyman is 59 based on a quick google search, so if he does stay, I could see him retiring in the next five years.

you are also dealing with an extremely different demographic out in New Mexico. i'd go on to guess that 1/3 of their population don't give two shits about any athletics at all!

Ron looks much younger than 59.

If he wasn't interested, he could pull his name. This is also the second time his name has been out in public. There were rumblings he interviewed for several other jobs, including some in state. On the flip side, if he wanted to do 5 more years and retire, taking a job that nets him a nice pay raise wouldn't be a bad idea for him either to boost his retirement nest egg.
