I know there are a few people on here that really care about baseball. Most of the board are football and basketball fans, which I am too. It just irritates me the baseball team doesn't really get promoted to the Terre Haute area. They put up billboards for Football, Women's and Men's Basketball, but I've never seen a billboard for the Softball/Baseball team.

Also, do they make the posters for Softball/Baseball like the Football, Women's and Men's basketball teams get?

I've not heard any radio ads for Softball/Baseball either.

Baseball has a rich tradition here at Indiana State. I mean they have made a College World Series appearance, 3 guys in the MLB, handful of players in the Minor Leagues and Independent Leagues.

Bob Warn Field isn't the best stadium in the MVC, but it could be worse.

Ushers are nazis out at the field too, but hey were used to it.

Past two years they have won 30 games, which is a good amount for college baseball now since there is a maximum amount of games a team can play.

I know for most people this will go in one ear and out the other, but I'm just a baseball nut and I think Indiana State has the resources to win championships in baseball, just need more people to come out and watch the games.

Sweep Bradley!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I guess their thinking is the traditional line of thinking. The only sports that generate substancial amounts of money and pay their own way are football and basketball. Plus, those two sports spin off money to other athletic programs.

Quality baseball is what Terre Haute has in the Sycamores. Yet, tons of folks go to a summerball game (The Rex), which is not the same quality. BUT, The Rex has great community promotion, has good in stadium promotions and is a family-friendly thing to do on a hot summer night.

ISU Baseball schedules are erratic...especially with a limited number of conference games last year and the last home game was at the end of April! But, good promotion and ticket packages would boost attendance greatly.

Since The Rex is basically owned by the University Foundation, it would be easy to take a page out of The Rex's book on how to get people into the stadium. AND, it would be great for the two programs to cross-promote.

Once again, I will not be afraid to show my ignorance. What kind of player makes up the Rex roster? Are they local kids or from various places like the Trees roster? I'm just trying to understand the situation and why one team is promoted so differently from the other and why the attendance is so different. An obvious factor on attendance is that the college season is during the school year when younger fans have homework and practice of their own on week nights. The Rex, apparently, do not face that issue. Thanks for trying to clarify these issues.

Advertising costs money so that's why you're unlikely to see little of it for non-revenue generating sports. Hell, you didn't see much of it for the football or basketball programs, either. That said, I don't think billboards or radio ads are prudent use of athletic department funds in today's society anyhow. I don't know about you, but I rarely look at billboards and I don't listen to the radio often unless it's sports radio.

If Sycamore baseball fandom is going to grow, it is going to have to be done through an organic, grass roots approach. How do you do that? I'm not sure if it even can be done considering how small crowds are at football and basketball games. I think they've taken some nice steps in trying to reach a broader audience in having an official presence on Facebook and Twitter.

On the flip side of that, I'm ready to update the website headers and I had planned on doing baseball for the next couple of months. However, I can't find any good Sycamore baseball pictures. If you go to ISU's Smugmug photo gallery, they've only got photos for one game this year (home opener against IU) despite having played 15 home games this year.

Bringing it down to our level, out of our 1,500+ registered members, there are just a handful that actually post in the baseball forum -- I'd say maybe 15-20 folks have made 95% of the posts in this forum. How do we grow our baseball fanbase on Sycamore Pride? For those of you that go to the games, do you speak with anyone about possibly joining the site and posting in the baseball forum?

Sycamore Proud: The Rex is made up college players from community college through DI. It is an opportunity for players "to work" on things before returning to school in the fall. For some of the kids, its a valuable experience...for some it gets them injured...for some it's just something to do and they perhaps slide backward. Having been involved with these kinds of teams for the past ten years, I can tell you it does not hold a candle to DI. There are few practices and instruction can be iffy.

Jason: I have, like you, counted about 15 or so that generally post, but more than 150 members seem to peek in on the site. In fact, I have noticed a drop from last year on views on threads...which I hope will pick up now that the conference season has started. I don't know why the interest has dwindled slightly. On the other hand, we seem to have a lot of "guests" (those who view, but don't register).

Thanks!

I've seen Megan out here taking pictures so they should be up. I dont want to bring up student numbers. I understand mid week games are usually too early for people to attend but Friday night games should have high numbers. Friday night pitchers in the MVC are some damn good pitchers. ISU has some quality players. We have about 5 guys who will be drafted one day. I understand baseball games are long as heck, but nothin beats a baseball game under the lights!

The Rex play their games in the good old summertime. The Sycamores rarely get summer temperatures and night games are most always damned cold. A day or night at the ballpark with the Rex is entertaining as it is comparable to attending a minor league game.

Also as far as roster, ISU can only have 3 or 4 players on the team by rules. Last year's roster had players from college teams from CA, TX, AL, etc.; several of them do call Indiana home though in the off season.

It was a lil cold last night but thats what sweatshirts and jackets are for! Its cold at football games but that doesnt stop ppl!

Did you really just say "It's cold at football games but that doesn't stop people?" because I remember 2-3 years ago when we played at home against UNI and alot of people said "It was just too cold, worried it would rain too."

I just grow weary of people saying "football gets sooooo much support" when they have been there too...It's kinda asenine lol

Well Greenwell they had quite a bit of ppl watch their games this year. Baseball had had two solid previous years, so why won't people come support them?

In comparison to other schools in our conference it was actually pretty bad...It happens...College baseball isn't a big draw usually...and How many times have you seen me beg people to go to sporting events? I am not the the one you have to convince...

I know! Wichita draws pretty well for obvious reason. Creighton and Missouri State have good numbers too. Other than that it's pretty low
