Hard luck team...they're competitive in most of their games, just unable to get the key hit when necessary or a favorable call. Tonight in the top of the 7th w/ runners on 2B & 3B w/ only 1 out, PU had two (2) consecutive batters look @ strike 3 from LHP frosh, Tristan Polley. In the preceding inning (6th), the Boilers had runners on 2B & 3B w/ 1 out, and ISU P Damon Olds fielded a bunt & tagged out the runner to 1B, then tossed to HP, where the runner from 3B was tagged on the lower back by ISU's Kaden More...clearly ahead of the throw & UNDER he tag - but called out by the Ump in Chief. Blown call, but to ISU's advantage!
Early in the game, ISU's catcher picked off a Purdue runner @ 2B...SS Tyler Friis' was jumping up & down disbelieving the blown call!:seestars: BTW, this was Friis' 1st game back @ SS after his neck injury v. IU on a head first slide while attempting to steal 2B. Good to see the ORIGINAL & #1 ISU defensive IF tonight. Friis looked good, as did 1Ber Dane "Goose" Geisler, who went 2/4 while also ripping a shot to the RCF gap that was caught. If the Jasper native can just get his bat fired to capacity w/continuity...watch out. ISU 2Ber Andy DeJesus almost got TKO'ed while trying to field a hot ground ball w/ maxi-top spin. The ball grazed the side of DeJesus face. Coach Hannahs came out and inspected the turf between innings, because of the awkward nature of he bounce.
Kyle Moore has been playing LF and doing a good job, but I still feel that frosh Chris Ayers is our #1 option, both w/ he glove & bat. He's sitting because of a 2-week slump that knocked his BA under .300.
