Undoubtely St. Joseph's I would think since even tho D2 teams have less scholarships more quality talent goes to D2 teams than NAIA schools....the pro prospects are much higher

I'm not too sure about that. Using that logic there is no way we lost to Quincy last year: NAIA vs FCS.? As much as I want to agree with you I just can't. Remember St. Francis and the West logic? Who's best? We will see on Oct. 2. Who's best? I hope we are. As for them???

Not that scholarships are the end all, but DII schools are allowed 36 whereas NAIA schools are allowed 24. We, of course, get 63 and FBS gets 85.

More importantly, I think SIU showed that Quincy had problems stopping the run. Our offensive line play has improved 100 fold over last year and we should be able to run the ball at will against them. Obviously, we've got a couple games in front of Quincy, so we'll need to see how healthy we are going into that game.

This year's team has something to prove in a grudge match for pride against Quincy. I can only imagine our boys will be out for a big win. Western Illinois will be a similar game I'm sure...but of course Quincy at our house for the second home game!!!??? I wouldn't miss that for anything.

I think st. Joe's was better.....

here is what you have to remember...isu led quincy by 17 points in the first half last year....and then didn't finish the game...they had quincy on the ropes several times....but failed to end it.....they let quincy hang around...and gain confidence...and momentum......i didnt see that against st. joe's.....they got that long td pass....and isu could have folded...could have started doubting itself...but they didn't....they hung in there.....and blocked that punt for the touchdown.....and from that point on...the game was over.....

Before we worry about Quincy, we have WIU, which is a good chance to get our first road win in five or six years and an MVC win. Let's focus on that if we're going to focus on anything other than Cincy.

Exactly, that's why I don't determine the strength of a team solely by it's division. Under West we were not good. St. F beat us because they were better prepared, well, just better that day. We are winning now, W's will continue this season, because we are better as a team, including better preparation. We are not better because of the division we play in. I believe that college football strength is based on skill, talent, speed, quickness, attitude and preparation of a team--not on what division it plays in.

What are we talking about again???? I didnt mean it like that....the Talent at Quincy just isnt as good as the one at Saint Josephs.....I think Most football minds would agree but I mean your right in some ways but wrong in others because the amount of Scholarships does make a difference!

The NAIA St. Francis team that put a whooping on us in 2005 (10-42) was better than St. Joe's or Quincy so I guess you can say that scholarships vs. speed, skill etc. doesn't always convert to wins either. St. Francis was a VERY good team and had come off a great run in the playoffs the year before. The reason this discussion goes back and forth is simple. You can site examples of success with either argument. Neither St. Joe's OR Quincy are that strong this season so who knows who is better? What we all know on here.....is that the TREES are MUCH better, faster, better-skilled, better-coached and bigger than we have been in a long time. It is very difficult to predict how much better we are but one thing is for sure, we will win more this season, and next year we will be even BETTER than 2010~

I think we all agree that over a period of time, St. Joe will be better than Quincy and our Sycamores will be better than either of them. Maybe I should qualify that to be a period of time in the immediate and near future. There will always be exceptions to the rule of logic which we a bantering about. Go Sycamores!

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I don't believe NAIA schools have the same eligibility requirements as NCAA schools so they're often able to pick up some pretty good athletes that wouldn't qualify academically at an NCAA institution.

chris...you are correct sir.....

i remember when we played alabama-montgomery in men's basketball when i worked at isu.....all of their guys had played at major division i schools....but had been either kicked out for law breaking...or had flunked out......and they were really good.....

the rules for naia eligibility....are a lot different than they are for the ncaa.......

So now we lost to Quincy because they had Div. 1 thug rejects? I don't think that's what you guys are trying to say, but that's what it sounds like and that's just sour grapes.

No but it's true....however...The talent level will still be a little higher or just better all over because they will get some of the rejects from D-1AA...Whilst the rejects from DI with these problems are rare....

bent...all i know...is that the offensive line for quincy....

towered over isu's offensive and defensive linemen.....lol......

still...isu should have won the game.....they just let it get away from them.....didnt finish the job....they did finish against st. joe's though......
