Last year I ended up over at Indiana State working with my son and living with my son and living like a little gypsy. I had the time of my life coaching I-AA football and basically running the defense and seeing the elation on the face of kids who had never won before. They had won about one game in 50 tries and we ended up going 6-5. You would not believe the looks on the faces as they just won a game nobody gave them a chance to win.”

Coach Minter had a huge influence on the kids last year. He gave them the confidence that they were ready to compete, and didn't settle for any can't do mentality. He held the players to the same high standards that he expected from the players on the other BCS teams he's coached. His son is also developing as an excellent coach, with many of the same attributes (but in a much quieter way).
 
I was flabbergasted, and thrilled, last year when I saw that Rick Minter had joined our staff. I knew that he was an extremely high quality coach, and our program is better for having had him here.

I hope the players benefit from a year under his tutelage, and that (specifically) the defense really rises to the occasion this season. If our defense really cranks it up a notch or two, we could be extremely dangerous, and a lot of that, I think, goes back to the mentality that a coach like Minter demands from his players.
