RIP 11/12 season. This game ended like so many before it this year. Did we really finish 18-15? It feels much worse than that.

Did anyone else notice that Kuoang wasn't at the game tonight?

The crowd was about what I expected, but was surprisingly loud at times.

Thought our young big guys RJ, KItch and Gant were good.

I listened to Coach on the post game show and he said they did have chemistry problems this year and that he wasn't going to let it happen next year. That confirms what most of us thought.

I don't want to pick on Coach because he has forgotten more than I will ever know. But, we need to change up our offense and defense, we are way to predictable. Good athletic teams break us down easily on both ends.

I usually sit in the upper bowl but tonight I spurged and bought tickets 6 rows from the floor. Wow! what a difference in excitement and noise, but also perspective on our team versus the other. I like a lot of our players but we are not even close in athleticism to most teams. RM was relentless on the boards. They outrebounded us by jumping over us. They had players who could create their own shot. They could hit the open shot and got more of them. They could defend. I was mad in the second half at our play but the bottom line is they were better.

We have had 3 consecutive winning seasons, which is great. But, if we want to take the next step and become a mid major power or at least finish in the top half of our conference, we have got to recruit better players. I really hope the guys we have coming in next year are as good as we think they are, because we need them.

On the positive side, we have a good nucleus to build around, we just need some more athletes.

I'm sure it will come out sooner or later, but I've heard from multiple folks that Koang has left the program.

Meistro, very well stated and spot on in my opinion. Since I agree with all of his (her) statements, I decided to speak my piece linked to his excellent summary as opposed to my "the game sucked" thread. I will tell you, that had I commented about my thoughts on the RMU game when I arrived back from TH, instead of waiting till I calmed down, my thoughts would have been more emotional and likely over-stated. The game last night was so tough for me to watch that I might have broken "my" rules about pointing fingers at specific players (or coaches). Here are some of my thoughts.

1. With 2,100 tickets sold and maybe 1,500 in the house, most of our projections were very accurate. Coach Lansing was said to have purchased 100-200 tickets for the game to give to students and I counted less than 50 there so right off the bat, I was pissed about this game. My partner in crime last night couldn't get off the subject of how few students were there and with the exception of a couple of games, their apathy did not go unnoticed all season. They must figure out something because as mad as I was about so many other things, that the student apathy was my biggest disappointment not only last night but of the entire year. If RP paid $31K for this game, he lost his shirt. I think it is awesome that they could do it, but like the "bought" game with Quincy, sometimes those games do not pan out like they should. We ran into a couple of Sparkettes getting a quick bite to eat on the way out of town and we asked them about the students and the "obnoxious" fans and their expletive-laced "noise' and they both said it is basically a few guys that are the offenders and they were well aware of the two "relatives" of players that have been rumored to be causing all the ruckus.

2. The crowd did make some nosie in the first half when we were playing well. The time out promos were absent and it was quite refreshing. As stated on here before, those promos disrupt the cheerleaders when those idiotic games are going on and I thought they did a much better job of engaging the crowd because of it. The bad news is that the crowd was so scattered around, that it was hard to get them revved up.

3. I agree with meistro that R.J, Kitch and Gant looked pretty good and with some new pieces added to the puzzle, it will be fun to see all of the young players improve and be even more effective next season. The bad news here is that Kuong was missing, Carl was missing, our Gonzaga guy looked like he was wondering the entire game why he came to Terre Haute in the first place, and although the chemistry looked pretty good in the first half, when things went south, they looked like they all hated each other. If someone high fives me and is looking at the floor when they do it, it just doesn't look sincere. Anyone else notice that? I have said it all season but these missed 5-ft or LESS shots at the basket have to be setting a record for points lost at close range. It is also very tough to watch them NOT dunk the ball up close as well. They missed three close-range shots that might have gone in had they dunked them instead of trying to finesse the ball into the hoop. It is flat out ridiculous that they miss so many of them. Once again, the players tend to make a move to the basket with no plan of attack and end up throwing up a prayer or they turn it over. That is ugly to watch time after time. They also missed TEN fricking free throws. That is a brutal stat as well. I also agree with meistro that we lack athleticism. These guys need to work hard in the off season to toughen up and get in better shape.

4. I won't criticize coach but suffice it to say that he is aware he has some work to do. I am a huge supporter of Greg but he should link up with Steve Alford or Coach Knight and go fly-fishing for a week so they could talk hoops and strategies. He commented after the game that chemistry is an issue and that likely means the coaches as well. Bad chemistry can hurt you as bad as injuries and frankly there is something wrong there and I can't really put a finger on it. If he can't go fishing with Alford, maybe he should find a sport psychologist.

5. We have said it on here but they MUST figure out the whole lower bowl situation. Obviously, with such a small crowd, the bowl was sparsely populated but basically, it has been all season. We have never come up with a genius idea about how to solve the no-shows who don't use the seats that they have purchased in the lower bowl. Figure it out because it too, detracts from the atmosphere tremendously but the more people we can get near the court, the louder the place becomes. Winning, of course, will solve that problem too and hopefully this team will come back ready to play next season.

Bottom line, three winning seasons in a row shows a good trend. Attendance has shown a steady improvement and that is a positive BUT there is much to do, with the coaches, the players and more importantly, the atmosphere in Hulman Center. Let's hope we continue to improve the product. A shitty game like last night is a terrible setback heading into the off-season but hopefully, we can put it behind us and start fresh next season.

Since I am a football guy, I can hardly wait for that season to start.

Hate to see Kuoang leave, from what I hear he is a nice kid. But if that frees up a scholarship, maybe we can pick up another JUCO player for next season. As far as the attendance compares to other schools hosting CIT & CBI games, we were actually in the upper half. I checked several box scores and many schools only had 1,000 - 1,500. Evansville announced a little over 3,000. This why i was surprised we decided to host a game, there was no way we were going to get the 4,000 needed to break even. But it is good to know that RP is willing to take a chance and support the program. BTW Bally, I'm a 45 year old male and life long Hautian and Sycamore fan.

You cannot fault RP on bringing this game in, although as we both have said, it likely didn't pan out well financially. I always figure that most on here are male, but I did discover one that wasn't so now I always give the his/her when I am referring to someone I do not know already. I will be mad about this game for a long time but like we have said, it is really hard to put your finger on what is not right with the team, other than chemistry, which Greg had addressed previously as well as last night. We can be pointed in our statements without calling out a specific player or a coach. I think we both proved it can be done.

sorry to say this but you know what we have a open scholarship that was wasted the past 3 years

And who wasted it? I tend not to blame the kid in a situation like this, but the coaches, both past and present. When Koang played (albeit sparingly) this year, he showed some skill. I never understood why he wasn't given more floor time to prove himself. If you knew you weren't going to play him, why was he brought back? Did they talk to him about transfering last year?

Being that he was from Nebraska was this simply a case of him being a McKenna kid, who had no place on Lansing's team?

Don't think we will ever know or it will come out along time the road. I thought he could shoot the 3 and would be an offensive threat but he never got the opportunity to show it?????? Maybe other issues related to his suspension?

I would have to say coaches . If he was not good enough to play an active role on this team as a 4 year player he should have never renewed the scholarship

This is a very inaccurate statement. We were easily a ten to fifteen points better team than them. Easily! That is why the loss is so frustrating. It's a game that we gave away.

On another note: If caoch knew we had a chemistry problem and he waited till next year to fix it, shame on him. Many of us felt it from what we saw during the year. To add to it, we saw an offense that at times played flat and was less than productive and very predictable. The defense had a hard time making adjustments during the game and with the exception of RJ didn't know how to get in position to take a charge. I could go on about loose balls, rebounds, critical posessions, and countless other lackluster areas that need to be fixed before next year, but I leave some material for others to comment about.

We all thought at the beginning of the year we were a really good team. We never blew anybody out and we lost 15 games. We can keep saying we are better than this team or that team but at the end of the season we are what we are: an average team. Not sure how we were better than Robert Morris. They defended better, rebounded better and shot better and scored more points.

Believe me, there is a major problem with Alford/Lansing

I'm sure it will come out sooner or later, but I've heard from multiple folks that Koang has left the program.

Golden all but said as much in his article today.

"Junior Koang Doluony was not in attendance for the game and will likely not return next season".

Don't think any of us are surprised. I think this is a case of a kid that McKenna liked and thought he would fit in with his offense, but Lansing runs an entirely different system and it wasn't going to work out. Surprised Koang never sought his release to try and transfer.

Worst part is that it really unbalances our classes. If we sign another JUCO, that would give us seven juniors next season, which means in two years we would lose over half the team to graduation. Not good. If we can find a kid we like, sign him up, otherwise hold this scholarship for next year. Just don't sign another JUCO unless he is an absolute No Brainer.

Only in the second half dear sir. If you think only in terms of actual production then I bow to your one dimentional wisdom. We would beat that team nine times out of ten. We had three critical possession with turnovers and four bad shot selections down the stretch. Thats seven times we came away with nothing. We were in control of more than half the game. We took advantage of the mismatches early by getting paint touches then fell back on the ol' dribble around the perimeter then throw up a quck three. It is the potential the team has that I base my opinion on. Robert Morris would never come close to beating Vandy. Who by the way beat Kentucky. From all talked about accounts, we matched IU in our scrimage. Look what they did this year. One game we play CU down to the last shot the other we get blown out. We play WSU at their house to a 2 possession game. My point is we played four teams ranked in the top twenty five strong. Robert Morris was nothing near that level. They played as well as they could when it counted. We played as bad as we possible could to lose. I stand by my opinion that they were not as good as us and that is frustrating.

I was kind of having fun with the old fly-fishing statement. I am sure you get the idea of what I was saying. Even Knight and Alford have had some issues. I have a couple of buddies that are Hawkeye alums/fans and I was pretty well-informed on that "departure". Even Coach Lansing has been truthful about those days up there. Nothing clicked well for any of them in Iowa City. Good observation, though!

Koang is a good guy and, it is my understanding that he will graduate sometime this summer. He has maintained focus on his academic success in spite of the basketball issues. Congrats to him. I wish him much success as he moves forward in his life.

Agreed. I thought he was a fantastic young man. Best wishes.

Funny, it is ALL about perception, fact or fantasy. On the "angry" trip back from TH to Indy last night, my friend of 40+ years and I had that very discussion. He felt they were in no way were they better than our team and that we gave them the game. I said hell, they are 25-10 and they beat us by seven and they were the better team. Who's right? Who knows? That is why that point is being tossed around here, because there isn't really a right answer to that question.

They are playing in the next game and we are emptying out our lockers and (hopefully in most cases), continue going to class and finishing up the year at ISU. What matters now is what coach, his players and Ron Prettyman does to make this team play as a unit and more consistently and that they do not come apart at the seams. It would seem that EVERYONE has a crap load of things that have to be done to make that happen between now and next season. Who cares which team was the better one? Last night, Robert Morris beat us by 7 and we lost the game. That the stat that matters to me.
