The article is meh.
Part of recruiting is doing your homework. You need to make sure you got a kid that can get it done in the classroom. You need to make sure you get a kid that isn't lazy and that has a good work ethic. Sounds to me that he simply "star chased" and didn't do due dilligence. He lost his job because of it as he should have. It's on him and his staff to recruit talent and part of recruiting said talent is to make sure they get school, team and system fits.
Miami (OH) and SIU are similar jobs. Would expect a lot of the same coaching candidates? Wonder who will pull the trigger first?

Me too...location and recent success all day.You think? I'd take the MIami (OH) job all day every day over the SIU job.
Putting it nicely, Carbondale is a third world country compared to Oxford, Ohio. If I'm a coach looking to put down roots or raise a young family, it's a no brainer.
I gotta think Bruce Weber will end up in Carbondale. He'll be welcomed back as a basketball god, and he'll probably be able to dig them out of the morass they're in. Although come to think of it, he's never taken over a program that he had to rebuild, so maybe he wouldn't be the best choice...
I think if you are a human being with a functioning Cerrebellum you would probably choose Miami in any case.
Most coaches choose to go to a school based on conference affiliation and money don't they? Obviosly the MVC is a much better basketball league than the mac and siu doesn't seam to have a problem paying $$$..
Problem is, it may be a Damn near impossible rebuild...
Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami is what I would take...without question. Beautiful campus, near airport to allow for travel and ability to get out there and recruit, potential and huge endowment support, I can go on.
Carbondale...not much can be said that is good about Carbondale (its surrounded by a forest, there is no major interstate near it? )
I don't think so. We are being rebuilt! They aren't nearly as bad off as we were 5 or 6 years ago.
