Interesting but a little difficult to follow. So their downfall was based mostly on the players not being able to hang out at the Lowery house anymore?

I find it interesting that Bruce Weber is "allegedly" being considered to RETURN to SIU if he loses his job at Illinois. The latter certainly looks to be happening at UI and actually, SIU is more than overdue to return to some kind of normalcy in Carbondale, so frankly it almost makes some sense. His experience at SIU before was positive and the school is so fervantly trying to return to some kind of prominence as that program has had in the past. It would be his "last" job and then he could retire with some respect when the time is right for him. We'll see.

The article is meh.

Part of recruiting is doing your homework. You need to make sure you got a kid that can get it done in the classroom. You need to make sure you get a kid that isn't lazy and that has a good work ethic. Sounds to me that he simply "star chased" and didn't do due dilligence. He lost his job because of it as he should have. It's on him and his staff to recruit talent and part of recruiting said talent is to make sure they get school, team and system fits.

Yeah It definitely isn't going to be mistaken for a guy who won the Pullitzer but it's not laughable either...Look at the great recruiters(at the mid-major level) , they have their safe recruits, their not so safe and their projects. Lowery just didn't seem to know how to Balance that.

Putting it nicely, Carbondale is a third world country compared to Oxford, Ohio. If I'm a coach looking to put down roots or raise a young family, it's a no brainer.

I think if you are a human being with a functioning Cerrebellum you would probably choose Miami in any case.

I gotta think Bruce Weber will end up in Carbondale. He'll be welcomed back as a basketball god, and he'll probably be able to dig them out of the morass they're in. Although come to think of it, he's never taken over a program that he had to rebuild, so maybe he wouldn't be the best choice...

Weber's only had two HS jobs, right? Have never heard him described as a builder/rebuilder

Most coaches choose to go to a school based on conference affiliation and money don't they? Obviosly the MVC is a much better basketball league than the mac and siu doesn't seam to have a problem paying $$$..

Problem is, it may be a Damn near impossible rebuild...

Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami is what I would take...without question. Beautiful campus, near airport to allow for travel and ability to get out there and recruit, potential and huge endowment support, I can go on.

Carbondale...not much can be said that is good about Carbondale (its surrounded by a forest, there is no major interstate near it? )

It's nowhere near the rebuild that SIU is...look at SIUs season it has to be one of the worst in recent MVC memory, which is crazy considering they finished 9th and not last...

I don't think so. We are being rebuilt! They aren't nearly as bad off as we were 5 or 6 years ago.

Interesting losses by SIU last season: Ohio dominican division 2 team, northeastern and western kentucky...if that's not a tall task of a rebuild...idk what is.
