Knew Brent through several friends... super guy. Was killed in the line of duty today serving a warrant today in Terre Haute. Prayers go out to his family and friends. I believe he leaves behind a wife and children.

His K-9 survived the surgery and is in good condition. This was stated in the news conference.

Sad story it was a wild scene before leaving work tonight and the scanner was going crazy. Just a very sad thing that has happened in Terre Haute this evening. Thoughts go out to the family and all involved.

Horrible to see a man lose his life in a situation like that and as a dog owner, I have to say I feel bad for the canine as well. Not only was he injured, but he loses his master and companion, and probably is retired from service.

A very sad day in Terre Haute. We all know just how dangerous law enforcement can be but when it hits close to home, it is so much tougher to deal with. All our thoughts and prayers to Brent Long's family and friends. Terre Haute lost a good cop as well as a good man today. R.I.P. officer Long.

Very sad day in the Wabash Valley. I didn't personally have the honor of knowing Officer Long but my father in law who is a West TH cop knew him and said he was one of the good guys. Just goes to show what these men and women face potentially on EVERY single call regardless of how routine it should be...you will be missed Brent!

This is such a tragedy. I hope this opens the eyes of those who frequently break the law. I have no sympathy for people who are so irresponsible that they end up taking someone else's life.

They had a procession along 7th street in Terre Haute tonight as they drove his body from Union Hospital to the Mattox-Ryan funeral home on south 7th street. The street was loaded with people paying their respects, and this city has really rallied around the THPD, and the fallen officer and his family.
For once I agree with you Landrus. This, though sad, has seemed to unite the city and the people have rallied behind the THPD.
