Sycamore Proud

The Nicks Level
As I understand correctly, RP is leaving the NCAA after 2 years. No details are know. Could it be because NCAA wouldn't give him a 5 year roll over contract?

What sucks is Ron overall did a pretty good job while the AD at Indiana State. His rollover contract blunders for revenue sport coaches were borderline criminal offenses -- you just cannot hamstring small market, low budget schools like that. It could have been much worse had Sanford not resigned to go coach with his son since he was also on the same deal. Not sure if Joey Wells had one, too... I'm not too hip on women's hoop salaries/contracts.

A 5 year contract would have been sufficient.

But I think Ron was a good hire and we are better off having him than not and he was a great upgrade

Agreed. Despite the handcuffs he put on Clinks with respect to mens bball right now, he certainly got much more right around here than he did wrong and I am thankful for his services.

i wish him the best of luck in whatever path he chooses.

I'd take Ron Prettyman over every AD we have had since Gordon Chalmers. For you young-ins, that was way back in the early 70's. I'd have to get a list out to make sure I am not missing someone who left quickly but by first memory, I can't think of anyone who accomplished more that RP, especially with the money he had to work with. He wasn't perfect, that's for sure, but other than some questionable contracts written, I found him to be the most approachable, most visible, most likely to actually listen to concerns, and was masterful in getting facilities built (or improved) when needed.

That said, Sherard Clinkscales, if my gut opinion is on target, well match RP and then surpass him as AD, if not already. I really get perplexed at those who "pile on" any one who leaves on their own accord, particularly those closing in on retirement age. Who knows what tells someone it is time to move on, it could be almost anything. Like almost all of us, I wish RP the best and look forward to seeing him Monday evening and hope we get to chat a bit as well. It took a long time to put two talented AD's together one after another and hopefully Clink blends well with Dr. Curtis and good things continue to happen for Indiana State.

He's what... 62? 65? Somewhere in that range... Perhaps he's retiring to simply enjoy more time with his family... Travel... Exit the daily rat race...

This is what I was thinking as well. He could have probably retired when he left ISU. Maybe the "other opportunities" would be consulting.

I know Ron was not comfortable with the travel requirements of his job. In a conversation with ITF and me he stated he was gone an unbelievable amount overnights. He and his wife also have some real estate they are developing, I wonder if they are just concentrating on that?

Isnt he from the west coast? I gotta think that after this winter he would leave Indy even if it meant being homeless where it is warm in the winter months. Im almost to that point

Yep -- a native of California; I believe his stint at ISU was his first job outside of California...

Travel for work is never as relaxing, enjoyable as traveling for the sake of seeing the world, country, universe...

Agree. Traveling for work looks glamorous until you have to do it for yourself. I can see how it appeals to some. But it wasn't for me.
