Todd Golden put out several tweets about the desire among many SIU fans for Berry Hinson to be fired despite his teams second place finish in the league this year despite several injuries.

A few weeks ago that forum had a really weird vibe and it was difficult to follow what was actually going on. In short - they were at each others throats over Hinson and the forum has since shut down. Not surprised based on what I was reading a few weeks ago - it got really really ugly.

Further - it's an opportunity to thank Jason for the time and effort he puts into this site. I don't think he's had to deal with anything (thankfully) quite to that magnitude. I think a lot of people like to think they run or belong to the best message board around. This place is probably not close to the best as far as content or participation is concerned - but as far as a group of quality people that keep things pretty civil no matter the differences in opinion - this place is one of the best on the internet.

I also think the presentation of the content is really solid - so easy to navigate as far as I'm concerned.

I peaked over to the Saluki message board leading up to our two games against them, and I couldn't believe that their "Fire Hinson" thread was up to 425+ pages. If you think the Lansing contract/firing/retaining/whatever discussion gets too exhaustive here...we're in the little leagues compared to the Saluki board and their Hinson vitriol.

Also, I second SSOM's point about this site and Jason's work. Indiana State can thank Jason directly for any money or time I donate to the university. I'm more connected to the athletics at Indiana State as an alumnus than I EVER was when I was a student, and it's because of this message board. This forum connects fans to the school, and anyone that thinks this place is divisive, dismissive or a "problem" has their head up their own ass.

Jason, you're the man.

This place is so very special to all of us! There may be differences of opinions, but that's why these boards exist. The bottom line is there is no other board in the nation that has the membership that is loyal to their school as we are here. To say we bleed Blue and White is a very dramatic understatement.

Thank you Jason! Thanks for giving all of us Tree lovers a woodland like no other anywhere!

Let's go Sycamores!!!

At the risk of being perceived as a ass-kisser, Jason runs the best fucking board i have ever trolled. Reading the posts on Saluki Nation made me feel soiled.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I agree with your sentiments. Love this forum!!

Yup, a big thanks to Jason. This place really does produce and help groom better and a more knowledgeable fanbase.

I too noticed a weird vibe over at salukinet a few weeks ago. After reading the initial post from their boards provider, it seems like some deep stuff happening within the athletic department and the university administration. Part of me thinks that Southern is capable of getting to that elite level again, but it's becoming more and more apparent that those days are probably over for the salukis; unless some BIG changes happen at the school at an administration and state level. Saw somewhere they had a 22,000 enrollment during their mid 2000s runs and now they are around the 14,000 mark...

SIU-C is my “other” school. They can still raise money. They came up with a good idea called “A Day of Giving.” Half a mil just like that. I got this email from my law school today (I’m deleting the law school update part that was later in the email as no one on here would care):

Dear Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Thank you for your enthusiastic support and philanthropy on March 7, the SIUC Day of Giving. This was the second annual Day of Giving here at SIUC. The Foundation recently released the final tallies for this year’s event, and , and it was a tremendously successful day. On March 7, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the university donated $476,969 (an increase of 39.82% over 2017) from 1,818 gifts (an increase of 36.28% over 2017). There is a growing sense of excitement among SIUC alumni about the revitalization and reinvigoration of the university.

All the best,

Chris Behan
Acting Dean and Professor of Law

1) First, appreciate the kind words about this place. You guys are definitely my looney bin and the reason I put so much of my time into the place. Wish some at the school would appreciate it more. They'd be surprised the good will that could actually be had if they embraced it but it is what it is.

2) As for SN, I believe a group of the members will be putting up a new SIU forum.

3) As per Hoop said, SIU can raise cash like it's no big deal. One of the bennies from having some affluent alumni -- sure the law school doesn't hurt, does it Hoop?

Eh. There’s a lot of debt-ridden young docs and attorneys coming out of these schools with lower pay than expected these days. Read “The Millionare Next Door.” You never know who the rich guy is. Plus, lots of docs and lawyers—when they do start making good money—opt for a McMansion (with the concomitant 5-10k monthly mortgage payment), luxury car, and private school for their kids and spend as quick as they earn.

If you look at ISU b-ball higher-level donors there’s a few lawyers up there but it’s more small business owners, car dealers, bankers, and family money types.

But, yes, there is still lots of money to be made in law long-term so having a reputable law school (and time to build alumni) doesn’t hurt.

I saw Indiana State is pushing their engineering program pretty decently up here in Indy. Hopefully we'll get some donors from that once it has roots.

Deb Curtis said something interesting at her meet and greet here at the Columbia Club two weeks ago. She touted the new engineering program but admitted "we're not competing with Rose Hulman." Her theme was Rose engineers are placed nationwide and our program is to fill a gap needed here in Indiana. I liked that. She went on to mention there is a skills gap in lots of trades in Indiana and ISU is there to fill that void...I was kind of ok with that but I consider that to be Ivy Tech's mission, not ours. But whatever.

What I did NOT like is when she took the above theme and extended it to IU and Purdue overall. "We're not competing with IU and Purdue" came out of her mouth. Call me pollyannish, but I think we CAN, top to bottom, send out graduates that can compete with those schools, be it in business, law, medicine, education, science, whatever. I know because I've seen it. I didn't like how she short-changed us that way.

I did enjoy listening to her speak. A smart, passionate, and dare I say gregarious person for sure.

I may be a smart-ass, but she should be fired for that comment. ISU already has an inferiority complex. Nice of her to reinforce it. Please tell me there was context, like "...we're not competing to be a law school, or a medical school, or a pharma school..." Otherwise, that's a horrible thing to say.

I totally agree with you that ISU can send students out in the world that compete with the graduates of any school. I've had the pleasure of recruiting, hiring, training, and working with graduates from a wide variety of schools all over the country. ISU graduates are the equal of any of them. The education they received at ISU is the equal of any school. The big difference is the alumni network. But good students at ISU would be good students anywhere, and the dregs at IU would be the dregs at ISU as well.

That was a stupid comment by our own president.

The context was that ISU’s mission is fulfilling employment needs in Indiana. Not sure why she said it or what she really meant but I know what I heard.

I don't doubt that you heard exactly that. Unfortunately, it's sort of par for the course with many at ISU...

We're absolutely, unequivocally, no doubt about it competing for our life against Purdue and IU. We compete for students, dollars, alumni support, athletics on and on and on. Then our students graduate and we compete against them for jobs. Honestly, she couldn't have put any context behind that statement that would make any sense at all.

Well, they purchased a large Engineering banner to be viewed by Carmel/Hamilton County folk that drive south on Keystone past the Fashion Mall. If you're in the area, it is hanging off the mall's parking garage so they're obviously aiming it at a certain demo.
