I've coached against him and its about what you would expect. You have a kid who's #1 old for his age, #2 more developed than anyone else on the floor athletically and #3 understands the game better than anyone on the floor including some of the coaches at that age. At any rate, starting 8 of 8 from 3 point land is better than outstanding for a 6th grader - its unheard of. I coached against him for 2 years and just last year at the B&G Club and its difficult to find a defense that he can't score against. Damn near unstoppable at his age. He does indeed have the ability to be very good. For instance when Bassett was that age he was also very talented (I played with and against him) and he was able to carry it through all the way to college. Sometimes the rest of the pack catches up with kids, it doesn't seem to be the case here. The kid will end up any where from 6'2 to 6'7 if I could guess - so if he doesn't get caught up along the way he's well on his way to being a special player.

Wait til next year. We'll be having this conversation again when you see Dexter Shouse play as a 6th grader. He's already 5'9" and wears about a size 12 shoe. He's gonna be a beast!

I think it's a little too early to be having this conversation.

I see what you mean, dont wanna put any unreal expectations on a kid in sixth grade, but I did think that shooting performance and scoring output was worth a mention.

Was watching Wazoo Sports channel out of L'ville yesterday. They show a lot of HS sports. Aaron Carter's alma mater (Perry Central) was playing some school from KY. The Commodores had a 7th grade PG starting. The kid had a 7th gr body, but pretty good court awareness & passing skills. Not a DAMON BAILEY at this point, but if he eats his Wheaties, works on his shot & pumps the iron, who knows what the ceiling will be?

I have heard of kids that young playing in high school. It blows my mind that its even allowed by a sanctioning body.

I heard Lawrence North is on him already lol!!

No kidding, Ive always thought that the Lawrence North alleged "friends of the program" cost TH at least two state championships. One by ripping away Reicina Russell her senior year and the second Greg Oden. You put Oden on that semi-state team South had with Armon Bassett in Saylors first year..wow. That team was already good, with Oden they wouldnt have been touched.

The kid everyone forgets is Chaz Spicer. He played his first year or two at South then finished at Lawrence North. He ended up going D1. Another legit 6'8" or 6'9" kid that was athletic and could score.

Spicer's dad was transferred by Lilly. That was the only legit one of the three.

Ya, corporate intervention legitimizes the tampering. ;)

I'll never forget the HS my younger sister attended in Satellite Beach, FL during the late 70's-early 80's. With close proximity to Patrick AFB, whenever the basketball or football squad had a need in a specific area, they'd
phone the Dir. of Personnel @ the Air Force base and search their U.S./foreign family database!

There was an incident in E-ville during the mid-80's where then IHSAA Commissioner Gene Cato intervened and nullified the attempted "transfer" of a 6'7" 8th grader from S. IL who wanted to transfer to E-ville Memorial.
The kid's father had been unemployed and was given a "job" by a local car dealership. The non-Catholics claimed "foul," thus Cato's intervention.

The family ultimately moved across the river to Henderson, KY, where the father was given another "job." Never heard anything about the player's HS development while in KY.

Moral of the Story: If you see an EARLY foul, call it, otherwise lose control of the "game."

Didnt the IHSAA stop Kojak Fuller and Eric Bush from playing together in high school? Im kindve dating myself with that old of a reference but I believe both were considered Mr. Basketball candidates at the time.
