Just heard that. I guess if we win out and get to the MVC championship I can see it. Otherwise, as die hard a Sycamore fan as I am, I don't think we deserve to get in.

Have to get to the valley title game at least without another loss to even start talking about it again. I honestly am suprised we are still mentioned by some in the last 4 out let alone in the tournament. Too many losses in conference play.

My point of posting this wasn't to start another we have to do xyz etc

Being mentioned on a national broadcast this late in the year for an at large bid is nothing but positive PR. I know the negative Nancy's will take this over but when was last time we were in discussion this late for at large?

I think you guys are also not looking at other teams out there. Yes, we've got problems. But guess what, other teams have problems.

Let's take a 19-6 Stony Book for example: http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/teamId/2619

They are listed as being in the tournament by every pundit I believe. They don't have a single Top 100 RPI win, an RPI of 91, SOS of 285, Non-Con RPI of 148 and Non-Con SOS of 234. Their signature win is a 82-75 win of a 17-11 Canisius club. Do they deserve to be in over us because they beat up (16-2) on a bunch of RPI 150+ schools? Louisiana Tech is a lot like Stony Brook. 23-3 and they're 19-1 against RPI 150+ teams. Should they be rewarded for knocking down tomato cans all year?

Let's look at Lunardi's last four in and first four out right now. Not going to say who is who just to keep NAME BIAS out of it.

Team 1: 20-7 overall. 59 RPI, 153 SOS, 46 Non-Con RPI, 286 Non-Con SOS. Have 4-6 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 2: 18-9 overall. 43 RPI, 31 SOS, 79 NC RPI, 79 NC SOS. Have 7-9 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 3: 15-11 overall. 63 RPI, 24 SOS, 85 NC RPI, 37 NC SOS. Have 5-9 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 4: 18-8 overall. 47 RPI, 44 SOS, 38 NC RPI, 98 NC SOS. Have 7-5 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 5: 19-8 overall. 46 RPI, 58 SOS, 86 NC RPI, 75 NC SOS. Have 6-8 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 6: 17-10 overall. 52 RPI, 30 SOS, 48 NC RPI, 171 NC SOS. Have 6-9 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 7: 16-10 overall. 56 RPI, 32 SOS, 66 NC RPI, 137 NC SOS. Have 4-7 record vs RPI Top 100
Team 8: 19-7 overall. 37 RPI, 71 SOS, 57 NC RPI, 77 NC SOS. Have 2-7 record vs RPI Top 100

Then look at our resume. Do we not belong in that conversation even with our struggles?

Indiana State: 16-11 overall. 60 RPI, 55 SOS, 95 NC RPI, 31 NC SOS. Have 6-5 record vs RPI Top 100

I think we're also in the discussion because we are willing to play anyone, anywhere in the non conference season and the selection comm. and pundits really like that. If you take away a couple of our bad losses, we are probably a lock. Having a challenging schedule is not only beneficial during selection time but I also think it can help recruiting when you can go in and tell a recruit that you'll be playing on ESPN Christmas day or you'll be going to UCLA, etc. The upgrading of our schedule is without a doubt a plus. The other thing is, I think these national guys love to watch JO play. Being in the conversation on national tv this late in the year is priceless.

Agree and all the talk is great but it is the winning of games that makes the difference to recruiting and improving game attendance-which is taking place with Lansing.

Win our last two regular season games and lose in the MVC semis, we have a 50/50 chance at an at large.

Win our last two regular season games and lose in the MVC finals, we have a 75/25 chance at an at large.

All of this depends on what happens in other confrence tournaments, but the bottom line is we have to win against Drake in a few days and then worry about Eville. The way we have turned the ball over and shot free throws, those games aren't gimmes.

Great post Boda,

I'm sticking with my premise that I love the PR. Might help us down the road with a recruit or getting another Arop style transfer.

You're exactly right about the PR. I'm thrilled we're getting it, too. I still think he's drinking, but, hey, I'll take it! :spiritfingers:

Team 1: Ole Miss
Team 2: Cal
Team 3: Baylor
Team 4: Temple
Team 5: Kentucky
