Looks like South Dakota State is gearing up to build a new football stadium. This link is to a news story about the school (and USD) starting the process: http://www.kelo.tv/news/eyeonkeloland/NewsDetail6403.cfm?Id=114137

Here's a discussion from anygivensaturday.com about the stadium: http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?83781-New-Stadium-at-SDSU

Reason to keep an eye on this? It could give us a glimpse of what a new stadium will cost us. Our new football stadium will happen. It's just a matter of when, and who is going to step up and pay for it. Just thought this story would be interesting to all of us...

I'm more worried about HOW to pay for it vs. how MUCH it'll cost.

Anyone know if the MarchOn! campaign is raising a lot of athletic dollars?

I can't specifically answer as to the March On campaign, but with the year we had athletically with the football rennaisance as well as the NCAA hoop appearance. it is pretty safe to say that RP had a pretty darn good year in raising funds. I can't remember what that select group is called that is made up of some heavyweight former athletes that are raising money, but I have heard that they have also been very successful in earmarking funds for the athletic department as well. My guess is that if we can sustain some of this good sports "karma" out there for our alma mater, it will only grow in the coming years.

I really don't have solid information (as in seeing numbers with my own eyes) but i have heard from good sources that this has been one of the most successful campaigning years in recent memory.

Football has raised over $80k year to date and that didn't include funds raised from the recent golf outing (which will probably be at least another $10k if I had to guess). Only 5-6 years ago the football program received less than $5k the whole year. We've come a long way, but still have a long way to go. Get involved if you can.

Chris, that is incredible news. For those like me who have a craving for Sycamore football, your efforts and those of the other people with that group-- are very much appreciated. You certainly picked the right time to begin your efforts with the renaissance of football at Indiana State. Winning hasn't hurt that amount, that's for sure. Thanks, again. Can't wait for the season to start~

A good source tells me the golf outing raised about 2.5 times what Chris is estimating (even after expenses). Go trees! I'm also aware of other money not yet given, but that will be soon. Nothing earth shattering, but anything helps.

We need someone with a very heavy checkbook to drop a $20 million donation to kick start the stadium fundraising!!! Wouldn't that be fun???

Tony George, where are you??? :imslow:

Not a huge fan of the corporate naming -- understand it, just not a fan.

Would love the new place to be either Memorial Stadium OR Sycamore Stadium...

If corporate is the only option; hope we don't 'split' the place into a Corporate Field AT Memorial Stadium... a bit tacky

Doesn't bother me -- it's the nature of the beast, especially when you don't generate a lot of giving or revenue.

I would like to see it stay memorial stadium or Sycamore Stadium, but that is not likely the case. What will most likely happen is that ISU will sell the naming rights to the Hulmans for $300,000 like they did for HMSU...lol. No really, I think that it only makes sense that someway, somehow the new stadium when built will have some form of name on it whether that is a large donor's name or a company's name. I don't see it being memorial or Terre Haute stadium, because the city isn't going to pay for it most likely

Hmmm --- I remember the Hulman's donating ~$1 - $1.5M for HMSU... doesn't matter, RHIT got the bulk of the fortune...

State could bring the 'Memorial' name with them... the city of Terre Haute / Vigo County don't own the name.

Sure but you also end up with examples like this:

- Minute Maid Park (also The Ballpark at Union Station, Enron Field, and Astros Field)

- Sun Life Stadium (formerly known as: Joe Robbie Stadium (1987–1996), Pro Player Park (1996), Pro Player Stadium (1996–2005), Dolphins Stadium (2005–2006), Dolphin Stadium (2006–2009), Land Shark Stadium (2009–2010) )

as opposed to Lambeau Field (formerly City Stadium)
