Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Quintin Mikell has signed with St. Louis. The younger Mikell is the son of former Sycamore linebacker Quintin Mikell, Sr.

The younger Mikell grew up in Terre Haute while his dad worked for Sony. He played college football at Boise State. He wasn't recruited by the Sycamores.

Quentin Mikell, Sr. played on the NCAA I-AA playoff teams....

started at inside linebacker. A tough member of the Sycamores' "Crunch Bunch" defense that included Ed "Poncho" Martin, Kevin Lynch, Vencie Glenn, Wayne Davis, Regis Mason, Kevin Ramsey, Bobby Boyce.

The senior Mikell played despite problems with a dislocated shoulder (he wore an old leather harness contraption that kept his shoulder in place) and a knee issue. He just wouldnt come out of the games. Great guy. One of the original New Orleans group of recruits.

I think McGuire was coaching then when younger Mikell was coming out of high school but it might have been West. Not sure.

The Mikell family now live in Avon and there are some younger Mikell's playing for Avon High School. Senior Mikell is a major force with the Indiana State Football Alumni Association with fundraising and support. Like I said, he's a great guy.
