Got to think they go into next season as favorites to win Natty.

It seems that IL State focuses pretty heavy on transfer students. That is hit or miss many times. Coach Sanford discussed once that the best programs, the ones that win year after year, focus on building a program with freshmen and working them through the system. These programs only use transfers to plug a hole that may occur from time to time or if a big name would happen to fall into there lap. ND State is a prime example of this. They graduated 21 seniors from there 2013 National Championship team and just used the next up process to win it again. I think most freshmen are red-shirted at NDSU and they learn the system and taught to do things the right way.

I know IL State has missed on quite a few of there high profile transfers before, but they hit pretty good on the most recent ones with Roberson being the headliner. If you look at there playoff appearance record it is not that impressive over the last 10 years. I still would rather build from the ground up with freshmen, build a system that give guys time to mature and develop.

Spack has had some recent success with FBS transfers, and is obviously continuing along that line. They also have their rebuilt stadium that gives them a leg up with high school recruiting as compared with our facilities, but at some point, I expect the constant influx of transfers to take spots that HS recruits though they would move into will catch up with them. Play it while it's hot, I don't think it's a sustainable way to build a program. Their success next season will ride on the health of Coprich and Roberson; losing some key OL's may be key to their health?

You are absolutely correct

Our roster has 1 fbs transfer in king Frazier and he was heavily recruited by us out of high school, went to Nebraska got stuck on the depth chart and his only call was to NDSU, he has 2 yrs left and will fill a nice Hole after Crockett this year, we recruited and signed a top RB out of Wi who will redshirt and get in our strength and conditioning program, this is how we have built depth and talent

Jason, is it just me or are we not hearing much about what's happening on the recruitment trail for football? It's almost the end of January and outside of the 3 recruits reported on a couple weeks ago. That's about all I've heard.

Anything else going on?

Tom James puts some stuff out on his facebook and twitter feeds. It seems like we have a couple linemen and maybe this last weekend had some commits.

The recruiting profiles thread shows 16 committments by my count, including the 3 transfers. I'm sure the last couple of weekends and this coming weekend are very busy. I look forward to seeing the signing list.
