Reading the Youngstown State game thread got me to thinking. What has been your worst experience in hostile territory attending a game outside of the Haute? I'm sure some of you have some pretty damn good stories.

Interestingly enough, as a student, I never once had issues on any of the road trips I took and didn't have a bad experience until the 2011 MVC tournament from Missouri State and Wichita State fans.

The Wichita State fans were just overbearing the entire weekend. They were smug, condescending and one guy we ran into was about as low class as they come. We were in the team hotel lobby right before sending the team off for Day 2 and a Shocker fan walked around trying to buy better tickets stating we'd no longer need them after today. The same guy came down the next morning before sending the team off for the championship game and was trying to sell his tickets. As for Missouri State fans, we were walking out after beating Evansville and their Maroon Madness group was just giving us shit telling us to go home now because we were done, how we didn't belong in the Valley, etc. Another group of them gave us the business after beating Wichita the next day as well. Talk about karma. People were rude and acting up all over the place that weekend. I remember seeing multiple fights outside of the arena as well.

The only semblance of anything bad was some ribbing at IU by their old guard. We bought a bucket of popcorn and it had IU logos and some old douchebag kept telling Tanner and I how we wanted to be Hoosiers. Because we bought some overpriced popcorn. Obviously the IQ level of their football fans is off the charts. We slapped Sycamore Pride stickers over the IU logos and he suddently didn't think it was too funny anymore. We also left stickers all over that stadium during the rain delay. Still didn't improve the dump but I tried.

2011 was intense, very much us against the world. I pretty much talked shit to everyone the entire weekend - usually I try to be proactive and funny about it. My goal is to not be very direct or mean - I just make general cliche comments to strike up playful conversation.... I've found this to be the best policy for me.

I also should likely not attend IU games in Gloomington as that place brings out the worst in me. Again, I hate them more than they could ever hate us so it's just never a good experience for me.

I've found Evansville and Southern IL fans to be the most difficult to get along with. Had bad experiences in Evansville with those fans on on here with BudDawg and BankShot who doubled as Evansville and ISU fans. SIU fans were nasty at the MVC Tourney last season.

One story from STL last year:

SIU fan sits down in front of me - I make some playfull jabs and he responds back how I would expect him to, all was well up to this point. Desmar Jackson makes a good play (and 1 or something) and I pat the guy on the back/shoulder and say he is tough that was a heck of a move.

The guy turns and says, don't fucking touch me again man... We are cool, but don't touch me.

Clearly he had some sort of personality complex where he didn't liked to be touched. Either way, guy was a total dick.

That was the last word spoken between us... I was done at that point, okay I get it - They got up and moved at half!
