I'm off work tomorrow (thurs.) and made the phone call to the football office. Hopefully there will be some others there to watch with me. The weekend would be better but I have to work.

Could someone tell me what Junior day is? It is listed on the spring calendar for football (4-18-15).

It's a recruiting event.

It's typically when they invite current high school juniors to get familiar with the program and spend time with them. Not sure if we do this, but others will also get measurables and put them through some drills.. I'd assume we do as well. They'll usually get a sense of who are the most interested regional kids are by those that show up.

Gives them a chance to evaluate talent up close and personal basically.

Since that's a week before the spring game, I assume there will be some type of scrimmage to show the team in action to potential recruits. The bigger schools typically hold several Junior days during the spring. It's the "eyeball" test day.

Agree with NSF. We went to 5. Purdue, Iowa, Michigan state, Northwestern,NIU. Can't just show up. Have to be invited. Show and tell by the program: weight room, training rooms, Stadium, indoor training facility, coaches offices, lots of cute girls who work for the football program (for obvious reasons). And what I enjoyed most was the equipment tour at Michigan State. They had signed jerseys of every Spartan currently playing in the league also had a separate Jersey display area of Spartans that made all Pro in the league(Bubba Smith et al).

NSF- was exactly right on"eyeball test". No matter how good your stats . If you don't fit the physical image they're looking for. You no longer qualify to be on their radar screen-no more recruiting initiatives coming your way. Sort of a cut, if you will.
Short story about Mike. The kid that got the quarterback offer at Purdue in Mike's class, when they both are 18, was 6'3" 230 and looked like he was a 27-year-old cage fighter with the tats to go with and probably shaving twice a day. Mike looked like six-foot three-inch hundred and 80 pound skinny kid. However, we played the Boilers pretty tough Mike's Junior year and he had a decent game, while the kid that got Purdue's QB scholarship ended up sitting on the bench as a 3rd team safety still looking like he could easily win in a cage fight.

Andrew S. Lunceford of the Kornblue kicking school just received a full ride to State/his Twitter acct.
Wonder if one or more kickers will not return?

The Johnner's right on that one. I went to a camp at Illinois (Lou Tepper era) and they had 2 or 3 amazing looking student workers. We got to ask the players that were teaching some questions at one point in small groups and someone asked about them and I can still remember 23 years later one of the players saying "ya they are about average but they are pretty much b-----s".

College football recruiting: Coaches always told me, "Girls are nice to look at, wonderful to hold, but if you touch it, consider it sold."

I would have like to have seen the local kicker, Potter, get recruited by ISU. I think I heard he will attend Army.

Practice is breezing by. A lot of punts blocked in two days. Either one of our specialty teams needs work or one of them is really good.

Quarterbacks, with the yellow shirts on its hard to tell Kline and Adams apart in my opinion. Adams presumably knows the offense better however, Kline looks comfortable. The running backs all look hobbled with tight hamstrings and sore ankles. The back form Arizona is big, but appears behind Booker and Taylor. Linebackers look good. Lots of competition on the D-line. Spring game can't come soon enough.

I was able to attend practice again on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day. Much nicer than the day last week when it felt like November and no one was in the stands. #11 does seem more comfortable in the offense than #5, but I am sure it has a lot to do with being in it for a year. #5 threw 2 picks during the scrimmage. He will be much better after he knows the offense better.
I talked to the SID and asked if he could talk to someone about having the old speakers removed. He said he would say something about it. He agreed they should come down since they haven't been used since the video board was installed. If you read this stuff, Thanks!

Yellow 11 Adams
Yellow 5 Kline

Strange phenomena about picks, during the spring it is hard to tell if it was a bad throw, a bad route by the receiver, or a difficult wind. When a new quarterback throws to a new target, timing can be a challenge even if one knows the plays. Relatively speaking, both quarterbacks need to develop better timing with the receivers. The spring game should reveal a lot more information if the ones go against the ones. I suspect the quarterback duel will be neck and neck going into fall camp.

Ive always seen spring defenses excel in the spring (for many teams)

If you defense gets dominated by your offense, I would expect bad things during the season.

as much as I hoped to get Potter, I think that West Point might be a better investment of his time in the long run.

Im not sure I would have thought that if I were a 18yo high school kid.

I would expect Army and Navy to flip programs in the next few years.
