Indiana State Baseball (19-11, 0-0 MVC) is coming off of a five-game winning streak, earning their most recent win over in-state rival, Purdue, 6-1 on Tuesday. In the win for the Sycamores, junior Weston Rivers earned his first win on the mound, and freshman Triston Polley earned his first save as a Sycamore. Junior Hunter Owen knocked his fourth home run of the season, and added a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. The Sycamores are set to open Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday, as they travel to Carbondale, Ill., to take on Southern Illinois (18-11-1, 0-0 MVC).

Salukis Outlast Sycamores In MVC Opener

UUYYYCUTRGPPMJW.20160409014934.jpg

Indiana State Baseball's five-game winning streak was snapped this evening, as they dropped the MVC opener to Southern Illinois (19-11-1, 1-0 MVC), 7-6. The Sycamores (19-12, 0-1 MVC) took an early 4-0 lead as they hit for a game-high three home runs, but gave up a total of 52 bases throughout the game, tallying 11 walks and two hit by pitches.

Sometimes coaches get tangled in the "bio-kinetic cotton candy" of throwing a baseball and can't figure out what the problem is...it's really pretty simple, and players have been successful at it LONG BEFORE "science" began polluting the sport.:cheeky:

The trouble with science & theory? Not all bodies are made alike.

But it looks good on a resume...

Here's Friday's stat line:

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?a=1&vislive=mvc&id=117956

Go to the bottom of the 6th & 7th innings under PLAYS. You'll see that RHP Ethan Larrison struggled after entering in the 6th, then settled down in the 7th, setting down the Salukis in order w/ relative ease. WHY would you remove him when he obviously "found his groove?" Makes no sense whatsoever. This isn't MLB, where on a whim, you can dial "100 mph FB" from the bullpen and expect it to be low and in the strike zone. McKinney proved this...again.

Over coaching...leave well enough alone, and let TOMORROW take care of itself.

Finally, will someone please explain WHY there's a .171 hitter starting LF and .211 hitter w/ "rubber arm" in CF? Our DH is batting .211...When MVC play arrives, you play your BEST, regardless of age.

Sycamores Even Series Behind Keaffaber’s Complete Game Shutout

The Sycamores (20-12, 1-1 MVC) picked up their 20th win of the season as they evened out the series with Southern Illinois (19-12, 1-1 MVC), with a solid 3-0 win this afternoon. Junior Ryan Keaffaber led the team as he pitched his second consecutive complete game of the season in shutout manor.

"A masterpiece"...best pitching performance I've seen for some time @ ISU. Rhino has toned up considerably since season started (15-20 lb loss?), and his mechanical consistency over 9 innings is reflecting this. As he demonstrated today, "pitching" encompasses more than just velocity. He kept the Saluki's off balance at the dish, going just 3 batters over the 27 nine-inning limit. He also equally split GO's w/ FO's. Of Rhino's 107 pitches, 75 were strikes.

Hope the ISU frosh "rookies" took note. Rarely see such a performance in Div I college baseball.

Keaffaber is Mr. Reliable. He understands his game and uses it to his advantage. He pitches to contact and lets the defense work behind him.

The YouTube video presentation at SIU was very good. Why can't ISU do the same since ESPN3 apparently is not available yet for baseball at ISU? The UStream crap without any audio is a joke, much like the subscription services employed for the indoor sports in the past. Sycamore sports presentations always seem to be at least a lap behind the rest of the league and the country............................it is a positive recruiting tool people and we are missing the boat again...................

Suposed to have ESPN3 up & running at the END of the regular season for the MVC Post-Season Tournament. Why the delay is beyond me, as the fiber optics have been in place for over a month. As they say year after year, "It's so I-S-U..."

Yes, I agree re: your statement of having "streaming" available and it's impact upon recruiting. Kids don't wanna live in a techno vacuum anymore, and STREAMING on the I-net worldwide adds continuity to long-established social linkages.

Who is the Tech Guru at ISU? Does he/she have any clue about video streaming (a lot of it FREE) for sporting events or is it that no one in the athletic department or a coach ever asks them to set it up for their sport? The old "head in the sand" thing again I suspect; "not my job".

Maybe someone on the tech side of things can call down to Carbondale and ask them how it is done or call IU or PU or IUPUI or Ball State or ?????

Send a PM to 'Boda. He'd know, but he could care 2 cents worth about baseball (as for 75% of Syc Pride), so don't hold your breath.:silenced:
The Interim A.D. should know, but she's only got two more weeks on the job, so don't get your hopes too high. As you can see, besides the typical ISU road blocks, were dealing with :tumbleweeds: administrative "manana syndrome" issues.

I sent an E-mail to Sherman re: the playing of "Wabash Cannonball" by Johny Cash during the 7th inning stretch on the digital scoreboard/PA system...suggesting starting a "tradition" @ Warn Field.

Could also play the song when Rhino's scheduled to pitch, as he's from "Wabash,IN."

I am remembering Boda offering his help on an IT issue on a no charge basis just to get it fixed or going sometime in the past? Think they never responded to his offer; they never got it fixed either.

looks like ISU will win the series, up 4-0 in the 9th, with bases loaded and one out. Nice to score more runs here if possible.

Ward went 7 innings of shutout pitching

5-0 bottom of the 9th, bummer we lost game one on that HR, but nice to win the series on the road

Evansville kicked ace 11-1 in a shortened game ("Slaughter Rule") v. the Shucks - also 2-1 in MVC. The SIU broadcaster stated that JIM BROWNLEE (former UE Head Coach during the '99 WSU "beanball" incident) was probably happy about this score!

Sycamores are getting a lil' complacent @ the plate after scoring a few runs early in the game - bad habit to reinforce & not the attitude to have v. the upper echelon squads.

Indiana State Baseball (21-12, 2-1 MVC) earned the series win over the Southern Illinois Salukis (19-13-1, 1-2 MVC) in the opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play. After dropping game one on Friday, the Sycamores bounced back with stellar performances on the mound from junior Ryan Keaffaber on Saturday and freshman Tyler Ward on Sunday. Ward earned his fourth win of the season in seven complete innings of work, and the Sycamores are now nine games above .500 for the first time this season.
