"The 2000-01 team is the last team to win the MVC Tournament in program history..."

We're just going to sit here and erase the legend of Jake Odum, Jake Kelly, AARON CARTER in 2011?! Come on now sports info.

Disrespectful. And I do mean that.

Removed the name I mentioned...I don't like to "name names".
Way to call it out......that's pretty damn bad. To be honest, I didn't open the link and read the article. Glad you saw it and said something. Its things like this that make us look like a mickey mouse operation. I know our budget is smaller and we don't have some luxuries other schools do, but we can at least get our own RECENT history correct. Doesn't this stuff have to get approval, or proof read by someone? Pretty sad. You know, I remember a certain person bad mouthing a guy who use to work his ass off for ISU, I bet he wouldn't have effed up like this.

Honestly, it's not at all surprising -- egregious as hell but NOT surprising; as I mentioned in a different post -- the "Quick Facts" on GoSycamores MBB page is 3-yrs old (2022-23 season), hell the online MEDIA GUIDE is from 2023-24.

I see errors like this on the GoSycamores page, so often, I usually just ignore them

Because the SID addressed the 99-00 & 00-01 Team Recognition so quickly, I checked on the Quick Facts and Media Guide (aka Record Book); thankfully, they remain blissfully outdated -- it's nice to see SOME things don't change

Mistakes happen. Even things people know by heart, they occasionally forget if they’re rushing and doing a lot of things at once. At least they owned up and corrected it!

You know you've got a keyed and irritated fan base when people are insistent on going in on the athletic departments PR staff well after they 1) edited the article and 2) took the time to come on here and apologize for the mistake. I mean - they could have not made the mistake (a mistake mind you) in the first place. But once they did they swiftly got it taken care of.

Ya all ever make mistakes? Probably not. I've found mistakes on stuff they've put out in the past as well - I just shoot them over a quick note and they thank me and get it taken care. My buddy is running for political office and he put out a facebook post - it had a spelling mistake sent it over to him and he's like, "I looked that thing over 5 times before hitting post and I still didn't catch that thank you". Sometimes things get missed - facts get missed and errors are made.

But words and grace still matter in this world you know - continuing to go in on them after the error was corrected and apologies offered in pretty intense. Like, this stuff is supposed to be fun still let's not carry ourselves in a way that makes us look completely insane as if coming on here daily for the last 15 years now isn't insane. But you guys a better than that - take a deep breath and move on.

What world did I wake up on? SSOM giving advice to people about having grace and being a better person?....Didn't have that on my bingo card. Doesn't make you wrong, just didn't see that coming. I should apologize for my rant. I was actually just aiming frustration toward Seth for things that happened in the past and that's not fair. I really didn't mean to bash the whole athletic dept, but my frustrations boiled over from something I should have let go. So, I'm sorry for that. However this wasn't a "typo" kind of mistake and seems like something our own athletic dept. should have never gotten wrong. If I'm the A hole for thinking that, so be it I guess.

I mean I've been guilty of it in the past myself... Without a doubt - but anyone that wants to check me or call me out on it in the moment please by all means but at some point the statue of limitations runs out on my own poor choices. But I'm not above being called out - my wife does it every day ( :ROFLMAO: ) I can it take on here if anyone feels some sorta way about anything I have to say.

I appreciate that it was pointed out in the first place - but once they fixed it and personally came on here and apologized for the mistake I thought that would be the end of it and we'd go back to talking about the 2000 team and how fun they were to watch, Jason's glory days, etc. Instead, ya all decided to go-in even hard knowing you had eyes on this thread which was crazy to me. I never referred to the mistake they made as a typo - I cited another example of a "mistake" being made recently and pointing out that it happens typo or otherwise. Just to be clear on that point you tried to make. That's all. No doubt - they gotta do better and be more diligent than they were here and have been in the past, we agree on that point.

Back to that historic season - my memory isn't that great the way it is but one thing I can recall when Indiana State beat Bradley in the MVC Title game I had a game at the Boys and Girls Club that Sunday and I distinctly remember car horns honking and people yelling out of the towers in celebration! I'm not trying to paint the picture of a Super Bowl Parade or anything - but on campus was a noticeable celebration taking place and I thought that was so cool to see and hear. I was in 8th grade at the time and can remember many arguments breaking out while filling out brackets with my IU "buddies" who were insistent that Indiana State was going to lose in the opening round which we did - but so did Indiana to Pepperdine (had to look it up).

All fair points.....and I'm truly sorry for not being a better person than that at that moment. I know no one is perfect, Lord knows I've had my fair share of WTH moments....this one included. You should know that I deeply care for Indiana State and always want us to be successful in all aspects, the athletic PR dept included. Sometimes my mouth and frustration outrun my brain and thats a me problem.

Anyway, yes those teams were a ton of fun. I remember the Hulman Center being so loud when we beat Bradley to clinch the MVC regular season title the 99-00 season that my head was ringing for 20 minutes after the game. I grew up going to ISU games and always knew I would be a Sycamore, but those 2 teams are responsible for turning me into the diehard I am. I was a sophomore and junior in high school during those two seasons and the memories I made watching those teams battle will stay with me forever. I got a Sycamore hat for Christmas the 00-01 season that was signed by Matt Renn and Michael Menser that still sits in a case today. It's all those hard years that makes the teams like these so so special. Glad they are honoring them.

I got flipped off yesterday in the Walmart parking lot for stopping past the stop line...1 foot, it was one foot. Like really? You gonna shoot me at 2 feet? The things that draw ire impress me, and not in a good way.

Everytime I see Menser I do a double take and have to ask myself...am I that old?? So grateful for ISU and so blessed to go through during that time. I can't believe I never crossed paths with Jason after grade school as it seems we were always in the same places.

So you're the guy....haha, I kid, I kid.

We all make mistakes, and I'll be the first to admit we're not perfect in what we do. It was something that should have been caught as we did have several eyes on it, and I'll be the first to acknowledge and apologize for it.

The quick facts have been removed. Since we no longer have media days in person and everything happens via Zoom, we've been focusing on social media-based information, moving with current trends in this day and age.

In regards to our record books, over the last two years, we've taken a deep dive into the information going back to the 1970s (NCAA Division I era) and have noticed a number of key factors, schedules, and statistics that are either incorrect, missing information, or we're reaching out to host institutions because the printouts are unreadable in our archives. We are working on new record books, but there's only so much time in the day regarding our involvement with recruiting, game days, and preparations for the season. We should have an updated record book with the current information, but if you check any of our releases, we always have to put the caveat "according to current records on hand" because we don't want a definitive statement going out that can later be proven wrong.

As you notice things that we are missing, corrections that need to be made, or adjustments that need to happen - please don't hesitate to reach out! We are in a fact-based environment, and I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong and we need to have corrections made. Feel free to reach out any time at [email protected] if you see anything, have any thoughts on what we could be doing better, or what you've enjoyed that we have created/produced and want to see more of. Happy to have a conversation at any time!
