I thought I saw someone post this earlier but I cannot find the thread. I got an email that confirms what was posted -- that the Sycamores were selected to participate and host a first round game in the CIT postseason tournament.

I've been told the game will take place next Tuesday, but they weren't 100% sure on that date. The entire field will be announced this Sunday and pairings are done geographically to allow for minimal missed academic time for the players, so look for a local opponent.

Creighton is also hosting a game next Tuesday as is George Mason. Looks like it will be a pretty solid tournament.

glad to hear we are hosting our first round game ... Do the students still get in free or will we have to spend 10 bucks to get in b/c you make a student pay you will have as many as you did in st louis thats about 8 or so ....

So when is it for sure?

The other forum said the game is Thursday here it says Tuesday. Hoping its Thursday as my better half is out of town Tuesday and will miss it :verysad:

Hey Blue what kind of dog is that set as your avatar? Is it yours?

I will be at the game whenever it is, but honestly I am more excited to hear what kind of dog Blue has than the Sycamores playing in some pointless post season tournament, yeah yeah I get the argument that at least we are playing in the post season - I get that. The point is all of these extra tournaments take away from the March Madness lore, Big Dance and NIT and expand one of the two fields and be done with it. CBI, IBET whatever get rid of emm all... lol

The individual that told me Tuesday works for the University, but he said he was not 100%. Basically he got the details in passing. I do believe last year's game ranged over a couple days so maybe it could be Thursday.

Why don't you tell the NCAA to get rid of all the football bowl games other than the championship?? Are the CBI, etc 'lesser'tourneys??? YES, but they still give our student atheletes a chance to improve or showcase their skills... Let them play!

Birth, they are going to play the games regardless of what I have to say about it and I am going to be their cheering them on regardless of what I say about it on here. With that being said let's not compare the idiotic bowl system that is college football, that is not really the same at all.

No one really like to accept this argument, but I find it really valid. So I go and run 12 track meets during the season and my times are not good enough to qualify me for indoor nationals, thus I don't make the national meet and I sit at home and can watch on ESPN and get ready for outdoor season or in basketball's case, get ready for the next year. But instead of being sent home as any loser should, you are going to send me to some pointless meet made up of runners of equal or lesser value to me? What's the sense in that? I have had all year to prove and earn the right to compete in a national championship tournament and I didn't get the job done. But oh here you go, we are going to throw you a bone for coming up short! Great season guys, keep playing and let's see who the best of the averages are... Talk about meaningless, if "anyone" can find satisfaction in that then to me that say's a lot about "anyone".

Don't get all bent out of shape at me here fellas, it's just the way I see it. I don't like it. I don't think anything less of anyone who likes the fact that we still get to keep playing. All I am saying is that we have had all year to figure out what this team is all about, we are not going to figure out anything new about them by playing a couple extra games...

Oh that Tanner.

There is some usefullness in these tournaments Morgan. You get another week of organized team practice time guaranteed. I am quite sure Coach McKenna and staff have been using this time to work their younger (redshirt) players in the early part of the week, then focus in on game planning once the opponent is determined. Preperation makes champions. This is a week of practice time a lot of other teams do not get. This is key, especially for a growing program like ours. And then, if the Trees win, they can continue to get practice time. Without this, the guys are on their own, with limited instruction due to NCAA rules. I feel this extra practice time is invaluable.

You know you guys are right their is some use for this up coming game. It will tell us what we already know about this team and what we know about it's abysmal fan base. You couldn't even pay people in this community to come watch the Sycamores and it sickens me to no end. So for the next month after no one and their brother shows up for this semi playoff style basketball game or pick up game whatever you want to call it. I can come on this forum and listen to you all preach to the choir about how horrible of a job Indiana State does promoting it's teams, how terrible the students are because they don't come to the games and how horrible the city of Terre Haute is for not support it's teams. You know the same things we were talking about last year. That's exactly what I want to talk about for the next month and a half... That's the way it goes, I guess sometimes it pays to be below .500. lol Oh but wait if we were below .500 their is still a tourney for us to play in. Laughable.

Go run a lap or something.............join the human race you negative #%$&. Get real tired of your opinions all of the time; mostly where you have no knowledge to impart anyway. Get a life or maybe a real job anyway.

The bottom line though Morgan is there are many more positives for playing in this tournament than there are negatives. Extra practice time, giving the seniors a post-season game to play in, program exposure, so on and so forth. Who cares if the tournament is pointless to you... it may not be pointless to Harry Marshall, Rashad Reed or the other guys on that team.

So the games are less than a week away and they haven't even announced the brackets yet. That makes it hard to build interest.

By brackets, you mean when games are going to be played?
No one knows who is in which tourney yet...

Actually teams, even though their season is over, are still allowed to practice as normal until the NCAA national championship game is over. The Tennessee women's team did it last season after being knocked out of the tournament.

The Big Dance is announced, then the NIT, and then the CBI and CIT, pretty much in that order. Creighton says they have a game and they may have but that tournament is not officially announced until after the others noted above. Even the Big Dance announcement on Sunday leaves little time until the Wednesday play-in game and the rest of the tourney starting on Thursday, so not much time to plan for it it just the way post-season is?

There is no down sides to us playing in this postseason tourny. Like many others have already said it gives the team more practice time and exposure and who knows they might just make some noise in it and have something to really build on for next season. We all want to be in the NCAA's but with everything that has happened this season I'll take having another chance to see my Sycs play, espicaly in the postseason...regardless of what tourny or who we play!
