Game one underway at 1:00 p.m. under sunny skies with a temp of 46-degrees. Starter for game one is Jake Petricka. Petricka is 1-1 on season with a 7.00 era. Key to victory is to have strong pitching and to leave fewer men on base.

The Livestats up and working smoothly so far. Radio broadcast suddenly failed at 1:10. Appears to be inexperienced board operators at station!! I called WISU studio and there was no answer.

At the end of one, each team managed to get a hit...but there is no score. Petricka had three stike-outs in 1st.

End of two, no score. Petricka got another strike-out to give him four on the day. He's having his best control of the young season.

Pitcher's duel for first three innings. Neither team able to get anything going. Each team has had one hit. Petricka has five strike-outs through three. Great outing so far.

UTM got a baserunner on a single...he stole second and came home on a single in the top of the 4th. Petricka did get two more strike-outs to bring his game total to 7. Score UTM 1, ISU 0 in middle of 4th.

No, I have tried to call their studio five times over past 45 minutes and no answer. Clearly someone either left or they don't know what they are doing!

WISU back on at 1:55. Doesn't sound like they even know they were off the air in the broadcast booth!

Fieser singled to lead off bottom of 4th. Advanced to second on a ground-out. Scored on a single by Ort. 1-1 after four.

Petricka got his eighth strike-out of game in top of 5th. Score 1-1 going into bottom of 5th.
Pearson got his first hit of the year to lead off the inning...Strausborger got a single to center...Burnham gounded out to third...runners at the corners. Runners stranded. Score 1-1 after five.

Things fell apart in the sixth, as after one out, Petricka gave up three singles and a double to score three. Two outs. Mann and Browning warming up in the pen. Petrika got of of inning with his 9th strike-out of the game. Score, UTM 4, ISU 1 as we go to bottom of the 6th.

Graham opened the bottom on the frame with a double and advanced to third on an error by CF. Freshman Robbie Ort singles to left to drive in Graham. Ort out at second on a FC by Lucas. Pearson flys out to second for third out. Score after 6, 4-2 in favor of UTM.

How's the field look? Also Pearson has been a slow starter but can really get it going. Of course that was high school.

The announcers say "you'll be blown away" by the looks of the new field. Other than that, I don't know.

By the way...the radio broadcast dropped out again at 11:30! The last lapse went for more than 45 minutes!

Petricka rebounded from his mediocre inning to throw for three straight strike-outs in the top of the 7th. He now has 12 on the day...a personal best for one game. Still down 4-2going into the bottom of the inning.

ISU came up with a single and three ground-outs in the bottom of the 7th. We're still down 4-2 after 7.

Lefty Kevin mann comes in to pitch for Petricka who had a great outing if you take out the one bad inning in the 6th. He leaves with 12 strike-outs on the day. Sensational. He gave up four runs, all earned.

Other than a runner reaching on an error by Ferrell, UTM went quietly with a couple of ground-outs, a pop-up and the game's first walk by either team. 4-2, in favor of UTM going into bottom of 8th. ISU has two chances to retake the lead and win the game.

Starting the bottom of 8th...Graham and Liniger both struck out and Ort grounded out. Going to top of 9th...4-2 UTM.

Radio broadcast still dead going to top of 9th. Mann still pitching in relief of Petricka who would give anything to get another shot at the sixth inning where he gave up three of his four runs! Again, he was stellar over-all with twelve strike-outs in 7 innings of work. That shows he has what it takes to be solid this season.

Mann solid again in 9th with three up--three down. We're down to our last three outs...

Lucas grounded out to 2nd to start the home half of the 9th...Ball (PH for Pearson) walked...Caple (PH for Ferrell) struck out and Ball stole 2nd...two outs. Strausborger singled to left and Ball scored. Burnam hit by pitch. Runners at 1st and 2nd with two outs. Fieser grounded out to end game. Final score UTM 4, ISU 3. Our fourth loss by two runs or less.

This was a quick game...lasting just 2:13. Rather than waiting until 4:30 for game two, I imagine they'll get game two underway in 30-minutes to an hour. We'll see.

Indiana State needs more offensive power. The outfield looks terrible, but the infield looks awesome. If the outfield looked the same, it would be nicer.
