The Odum Level
Do we get it this year at Southern or Youngstown? I really hope so. It's the last lingering sign of our five year nightmare. I want that streak to die, too.

I believe it will happen this season. However if it does not happen this year, it will not diminish the marked improvement the Sycamores have made this year. Most of us counted on St. Joe's and Quincy as W's, but the margin of victory may have surprised some. Very few expected a 35 point win over ISU-R. The OT win over Mizzery St showed character and determination. SP is very proud of this year's Sycamore football team! Period--no if's or but's about it. I'm hoping to win out--that would be beyond almost anyone's expectations; if we don't get another W this year I hope all of you join me in praising our Trees--players, coaches and everyone else associated with this team.

this is why ISU will always suffer in athletics. the expectations are not that high, so why not be mediocre. YES, the sycamores are improved. YES, the season has been a success (so far). but there are still 4 games left on the scheldule and if we go 0-4 during that time, that will be disapointing. if we go 4-0 that would be awesome. why not win everygame. instead of winning a couple, then deaming the season a success when there are still games to be played and won. this is what is killing ISU athletics.

Hold the Boat....

I don't think anyone on this site accepts average or just winning a few games and deaming the season a sucess. Most of us know that you don't win much of anything in Div 1 FB starting 20 true freshamns two years ago and having 67 players with two years or less college ball under their belt last year. We would all love to be undefeated right now but success is also measured by improvement. Next year, most would agree, is when we will have very high expectation. This team is just now maturing to the point of knowing how to win. As Coach Miles stated in his new release today. This team needs discipline. This is also part of maturity. We will get there. The players and coaches have what it takes to make it happen. It does take patience. The wait for a good program before Coach Miles had nothing to do with patience that era was never gonna produce. Patience was not gonna fix it

Well said and I agree 100%. Most of us would have been thrilled with 4 wins, and now we are there with 4 to go, we're talking about 4 more? There's a paradox in there somewhere.

Yeah I would have been ecstatic with 5 this season...I was very suprised with the W's...I don't know where anyone thinks we accept mediocrity...it's called realism man ...and no team is turned around over night, it just doesn't happen that quickly...look at Texas Tech, before Leech was there they were a laughing stock and it took him a while to compete with the top guys...Once we can turn this stuff around...we will expect greatness...

I do not accept mediocrity! I have high expectations for these last 4 games. If these expectations are not reached I'm sure it will not be for lack of preparation or lack of effort. That would be unacceptable. It will simply be because we faced a better football team. That being said, I will not let that change my opinion of this team or what it has accomplished this year. And I hope you wouldn't either.

Prior to the season i thought we needed to win 4 including the 2 smaller schools. after the loss to WIU i was really nervous about the rest of the season. now we have the 4 wins and im torn as to expectations. I guess i will just expect a win each week. I know the team does.

Hey Treeman

The season IS a success when you consider where the program WAS three years ago when Trent Miles came in and where it IS now. Can there be even greater SUCCESS? Of course there can.

When you go from no wins in several seasons combined to four wins ALREADY this year, to me that is a success. Call it partial success if you will. The Sycamores can win the rest of their games or they can split their games. They can still make a push for the MVC title and the playoffs.

That is all still out there for them. It's up to the players as to just how bad they want to reach their goals. And it's our responsibility to back them as they reach for those goals.

exactly!!!!!

The good thing is that there is not a single coach or player in the locker room that will consider it a success if they don't win more games this season. How many? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that they now expect to win, and, like Coach Miles has continued to say, that's part of the building process.

It's a success. The only thing that would disappoint me now isn't going 0-4, but going 0-4 and not being competitive. We seem to have turned that corner. We have a tough schedule remaining, but I trust our team will be up for it.
