The Kleuh Level
I recall in the 7th grade @ Otter Creek Jr HS in NTH, getting released from school EARLY, listening on the intercom news radio in the hallways while exiting to catch a bus home. Although young, the significance of the event was pretty clear. Gloomy weekend...TV was saturated with the event (no cable back then, only ABC, NBC & CBS).

I was a senior at Sheridan, and I was sitting in an English class. We knew something when we heard the voice asking if we had "heard the news". We were then told that President Kennedy had been shot. It was quite some time before we were told anything additional. Everyone sat motionless in their chair, speechless and numb. A few kids cried; others prayed. We didn't dismiss early, and the basketball game was played as scheduled that night. It was obvious that participants and fans alike didn't really get into the game.

You were in the second grade when I was a high school senior. How dare you consider yourself a member of the OFC.:smile::razz:

Now that I understand. I had 42 years 6-12 shop, industrial arts, tech-whatever you call it at your place. Then I've added 4 years of "other educational activity" and still just see light at the end of the tunnel. I wanted to get to a total of 50 years, but if my eyes keep getting worse I will not make it.

I was a Sophomore at ISU and living in an off campus apartment on 6 1/2 street. I was taking a "dump" when my roommate came in and told me about the shooting. Like many, I was numb and felt the uncertainity of the future direction of the country. Was Oswald acting alone, or were there more involved?

I will help everyone solve that mystery......Oswald killed Kennedy, Ruby killed Oswald.

I was born in 1973. My oldest sister was 9 months old in 1963, that's my closest connection to the assassination. I do however, remember where I was when Reagan was shot.

Oswald may or may not have acted alone, but one thing's for sure, there was a second spitter on the gravely road.

One unique experience for me was that my school district in Pennsylvania has always dismissed on Friday at 12:30pm, so this 9th grade student was in a department store with friends and noticed that 50 or so were glued to the TV's in that department, in shock because the network was covering the assassination in Dallas. When Walter Cronkite announced tearfully the death of JFK, I have NEVER heard a public place as quiet as it was. I remember that moment like it was yesterday.

5th grade...but it seems like I was younger than that.....I just remember that the whole world seemed Black and White.....and TV of course backed that up then. I remember on the 3 or 4 stations that were available....that's all that was on TV for about a week....maybe Channel 4 diverted some of the tragedy by showing Big Time wrestling with Cowboy Bob Ellis and Dick "The Bruiser"....and showing Frankenstein and the Mummy on Sammy Terry's show.
