Yo! Sycamores roll! I have to admit that I didn't catch the first 15 min. of the first half. Was coaching my 5th grade team and Otter Creek's 7th grade team at the B&G Club tonight - 2 wins for my teams and a Sycamore win = a great night! What I did see of this game was awfully ugly basketball but a win is a win especially on the road in the Valley. The best team won these last two road games and the team that plays the hardest won. The Sycamores get after it, they play hard and they have resolve! 5 and 1! Here we go:

This only a breakdown of the second half - if someone wants to do the first half please do:

Jake Kelly: From what I saw he didn't really do much on the offensive side. What he did do is play pretty good D on Warren when he was in the game. Wasn't quite in the flow must of the time, but given some more game time he's going to fit in just fine.

Lathan: Seemed to struggle a bit in the 2nd half, turned the ball over a few times. I'd really like to see him spot up for a kick out and catch the ball ready to shoot. He is a pretty good 3 point shooter and lord knows this team loves the 3 ball.

Richard: He's playing like a man on the road right now. Starting to feel it a little bit is Carl Edwards! LOL I didn't see the first half but I heard Pensky kept calling Richard Carl Edwards... The almost look alike? :krazy: Another double double tonight! He has carried us the last 2 games. Good work Carl!

Odum: He had what 4 assists tonight? Continues to get his teamates involved, he is the ultimate team player! Continues to get steals at a rapid clip that one he had late in the 2nd half was a fantastic play. Oh and not to mention the kid once again has not scored and they go to him with the shot clock running down under 2 to play. When have you ever seen a team put the ball in the hands of your frosh, that has no points with under 2 to play, on the road? We have done it the last 2 games and have 2 wins! Unheard of!

Steve: Looked like he had some rough calls go against him in the second half. He has struggled a little bit on the road the last 2 games. I am sure he will fair much better once he gets back to the friendly confines of the HC!

Martin: Saw him play maybe toward the end of the first half? I don't think he got in during the second half? So can't really say much about his game.

Walker: Playing a lot tougher inside the last couple games, starting the other night vs. UNI. He is starting to make some pretty darn good post moves inside, he gets some tough calls against him sometimes but he's so big you will have that.

JP: Didn't seem to shoot the ball as well tonight as he had been, not sure what that was all about? The last couple of games he has missed some shots that you expect him to hit. JP is judged based on how he shoots the 3 and that's really all we judge him by.

Carter: Knocked down a big 3 toward the end of the game and picked up a big rebound when we went small. Late in the game AC enters for Walker and the Sycamores go very small. AC goes down the first offensive possession and picks up an offensive board. We didn't have any offensive rebounds in the first half. Ended up with a quiet 13 or 14 points.

Koang: He's been a little more aggressive toward the rim this year and I think he's starting to come into his own. His shooting has been well, hit or miss. But he gives us good length and he rebounds the ball fairly well.

RJ: Saw another 4 point play highlight from the first half, other than that didn't see much of him in the second half. That seems to be the theme with RJ this season. He gets some productive minutes in the first half and doesn't seem to get much of a look in the second half. I'd like to see them work the high pick and roll with him a little more.

Like I said I didn't catch much of this game so if anyone wants to add anything go for it. I figured I'd done my thoughts of the game for every game so far this year so why not keep it going! We need a big crowd in the HC on Sunday, this team deserves it! Now the tough part of our schedule starts on Sunday. But right now I am going to enjoy this excellent start to conference play!

Side note: Have a family friend in Vegas for the next couple of days (he's a Sycamore season ticket holder) and he put 22 on the Sycamores for him and 22 on the Sycamores for me! Thanks for the cover fellas! Blue Sycamores all around!

Pretty good job, SSOM. Yes, we NEED a HUGE crowd at HC on Sunday. I'm bringing two who don't usually come to the games!

Carl Richard gets my game ball tonight. Playing like a MAN right now!!!

Lovin' this team!!!

I don't care for the Bears at all, BUT lots in the area do... If I were at ISU, I'd see to it that fans knew the Bears game would be on in the concourse and in the Varsity Club room so they could keep up with that during the ISU game. The Sycamores are on MVC-TV Sunday, so it will be easy for some fans to stay home and watch football AND ISU. Give them the comfort to know they can watch football at the HC, and they might make the right choice and come to the game. Sunday should be HUGE. If there aren't 7,000 in attendance, there's a problem. Big problem.

Totally agree with this! Well said and great idea. I think we will get a big boots from the students being in attendance on Sunday. Can't believe I am saying that? lol But hopefully that is the case - right now 200 plus students say they are going to the game on Facebook? We will see if that holds true...

Oh man I hope you're right. 7,000 might be a slight ambitious, but I like the way you think.

Yeah I think thats a little high. I would be thrilled with anything over 5,000. Got to remember who we are talking about here. It's still Indiana State and love it or hate it we are still talking about Terre Haute here.

1,000 students there would sure help. Lathan did his part by using Facebook to invite 1,000 of his friends - It would be nice if a few other guys on the team did the same thing. The players know how much a loud and rowdy home crowd helps them. Let's give them what they want!

There are three more days to get the word out and get this town excited. Let's see what happens. We get these next two games...:sycamores:

Yeah no doubt, the Administration and Athletic Department has a few days here to help spread the word and create some excitement. As much success as we saw on the football field this year, the crowds started to come and the athletic department helped get fans excited about games. None less remarkable is the start the Sycamore men have had to this season, they deserve a good crowd on Sunday. They play hard and it's not as if they have lucked into this 5 and 1 start. They have ligament written all over them, with that being said these next 4 games or so are going to to determine what kind of season we have. But the Valley showed us no respect in the pre-season rankings, fans freaked out after the rough start with losses out west and at Ball State and here we sit firmly in the top 3 of the Mo Val and off to our best MVC start since 2000-2001.

SUPPORT THE SYCAMORES!

There are flyers around campus for the game... against Wichita State. (I think they're Res Life posters, not even Athletics.) Why they're not promoting the hell out of the Creighton game is beyond me.

Alot of the self promoting is a lack of a student body group like the Izzone or Purdue's Paint Crew. If students could form a group and take promoting games on thierselves and do everything to drum up excitement we could get the bigger student crowds.

If I were the athletic department, I would see any attendance figure for Sunday of less than 7,000 as a total failure. We don't have the Colts to contend with, the basketball team is playing extremely well and sits at 5-1, it's on FoxSports, and it's a freakin' Sunday afternoon!!! Geez, offer tickets for $1. Just do something so we don't look so pathetic on TV again...

WORD!

Last game the attendance was decent but that probably had more to do with the employee appreciation games of corporate sponsors of Indiana State (Union Hospital and UAP Clinic) than it had to do with people really wanting to watch the Sycamores, let's be honest!

They need to do something drastic - $1 tickets would be drastic. They can not afford to sit back and watch this 5-1 team play in front of lack-luster 4 to 5k crowds. The old notion of, if you win people will come is just not true. Yeah it will help, but you got to drag people away from all the other excitement going on in Terre Haute this time-a-year. For gosh sakes we are competing with the Bears and the sledding hill at Deming Park - GET PEOPLE TO THE GAME!

Good win against a down Bradley Team. Warren gave out some cheap shots and there were too many moving picks etc that Bradley was allowed to get away with. Carter and Richard played great again. Richard has been the "Player" year to date. Carter and Kelly played Warren like they owned him. Who ever guarded Dunson had an off night defensively.

There was a group like this when I was at ISU (I graduated in 2005). It was just getting started, I believe, during the 2004-2005 season. I honestly don't remember what they called themselves, but I'm guessing they don't exist anymore. I distinctly remember them passing out free t-shirts for those who joined the club on game days.

With ISU athletics in general being better these days than back in 2004, I think a student-led group like the Illinois' Orange Crush would go over pretty well.

Actually, I thought Jake did decently for the most part. He forced Dodie into some very difficult, acrobat shots that just fell. Dunson did get a couple open three balls when we doubled on Warren or in the post. I think you could also just sense from the pregame that Dunson had a feel.

As for the screens, I agree that they were not set all night. Our guys took it in stride though and they still managed only to get a couple truly open looks all night. Love, love, love the way the defense is playing right now when certain groupings are on the floor.

This, above all, could bode well for this weekend's game...CU is struggling to score and even get open looks on the offensive end. I bet Greg (Lansing...since CU's coach is Greg as well) is looking at WSU defense to see what they did to keep CU at bay...they didn't necessarily double down as much as off ball defenders kinda hedged towards the blocks some when the ball went underneath. They made AY shoot more than he's used to but he's been off...ISU needs AY to be off I think as he can really spark CU's offense if he's on (him being on will free up others as his quickness often times make it so help is needed...)

This has the makings of a really good game...I hope I'm able to watch it somehow.

Isn't it the MVC game on FoxMidwest ? Don't they have that out your way?

"The game can be seen live nationally on Fox Sports Indiana, Midwest and Kansas City as well as Comcast Sportsnet Chicago with Scott Warmann and Mark Adams on the call."

Indeed this game is nationally televised on FoxMidwest. I do expect a decent crowd and hopefully a good turnout from the students. The game page for the game on Sunday says that nearly 400 students are going to attend - now take that for what it's worth. It is Facebook and some of those students won't come, some will that didn't even get the game page invite. So you figure if we get half that many we are right at Par...?

On a side note: The first 200 students that come to the game will recieve "head cut outs" of the player on the end of a painting dip stick. Make sense? lol You know how on ESPN PTI they have the faces of pro athletes behind Wilbon and Tony? Well they have made faces of a few of the Sycamores (Lathan, Walker, Odum and a few other) to hand out to the first 200 students.
