Yo! Sycamores roll! I have to admit that I didn't catch the first 15 min. of the first half. Was coaching my 5th grade team and Otter Creek's 7th grade team at the B&G Club tonight - 2 wins for my teams and a Sycamore win = a great night! What I did see of this game was awfully ugly basketball but a win is a win especially on the road in the Valley. The best team won these last two road games and the team that plays the hardest won. The Sycamores get after it, they play hard and they have resolve! 5 and 1! Here we go:
This only a breakdown of the second half - if someone wants to do the first half please do:
Jake Kelly: From what I saw he didn't really do much on the offensive side. What he did do is play pretty good D on Warren when he was in the game. Wasn't quite in the flow must of the time, but given some more game time he's going to fit in just fine.
Lathan: Seemed to struggle a bit in the 2nd half, turned the ball over a few times. I'd really like to see him spot up for a kick out and catch the ball ready to shoot. He is a pretty good 3 point shooter and lord knows this team loves the 3 ball.
Richard: He's playing like a man on the road right now. Starting to feel it a little bit is Carl Edwards! LOL I didn't see the first half but I heard Pensky kept calling Richard Carl Edwards... The almost look alike? :krazy: Another double double tonight! He has carried us the last 2 games. Good work Carl!
Odum: He had what 4 assists tonight? Continues to get his teamates involved, he is the ultimate team player! Continues to get steals at a rapid clip that one he had late in the 2nd half was a fantastic play. Oh and not to mention the kid once again has not scored and they go to him with the shot clock running down under 2 to play. When have you ever seen a team put the ball in the hands of your frosh, that has no points with under 2 to play, on the road? We have done it the last 2 games and have 2 wins! Unheard of!
Steve: Looked like he had some rough calls go against him in the second half. He has struggled a little bit on the road the last 2 games. I am sure he will fair much better once he gets back to the friendly confines of the HC!
Martin: Saw him play maybe toward the end of the first half? I don't think he got in during the second half? So can't really say much about his game.
Walker: Playing a lot tougher inside the last couple games, starting the other night vs. UNI. He is starting to make some pretty darn good post moves inside, he gets some tough calls against him sometimes but he's so big you will have that.
JP: Didn't seem to shoot the ball as well tonight as he had been, not sure what that was all about? The last couple of games he has missed some shots that you expect him to hit. JP is judged based on how he shoots the 3 and that's really all we judge him by.
Carter: Knocked down a big 3 toward the end of the game and picked up a big rebound when we went small. Late in the game AC enters for Walker and the Sycamores go very small. AC goes down the first offensive possession and picks up an offensive board. We didn't have any offensive rebounds in the first half. Ended up with a quiet 13 or 14 points.
Koang: He's been a little more aggressive toward the rim this year and I think he's starting to come into his own. His shooting has been well, hit or miss. But he gives us good length and he rebounds the ball fairly well.
RJ: Saw another 4 point play highlight from the first half, other than that didn't see much of him in the second half. That seems to be the theme with RJ this season. He gets some productive minutes in the first half and doesn't seem to get much of a look in the second half. I'd like to see them work the high pick and roll with him a little more.
Like I said I didn't catch much of this game so if anyone wants to add anything go for it. I figured I'd done my thoughts of the game for every game so far this year so why not keep it going! We need a big crowd in the HC on Sunday, this team deserves it! Now the tough part of our schedule starts on Sunday. But right now I am going to enjoy this excellent start to conference play!
Side note: Have a family friend in Vegas for the next couple of days (he's a Sycamore season ticket holder) and he put 22 on the Sycamores for him and 22 on the Sycamores for me! Thanks for the cover fellas! Blue Sycamores all around!
