I sure enjoying these reviews much better after a Sycamore win. Let me start by saying that is one of the best 20 minutes of basketball I have seen in the HC since Mike Menser, Matt Renn and Co. I was just a kid then so I haven't seen a ton of basketball in my life, but that was excellent team ball. Something like 11 assists in the first half to only 6 turnovers, once again a pretty good ratio. The Sycamores have a bright future! Sycamores move to 1 game over .500 and 3 and 1 in the Valley. Here we go.

Odum: Once again continues to shine in the first half, he played very well early on had something like 7 points 3 steals in the first half. His defense along with his effort continues to impress me. Not much else you can say about the RS Freshman at this point. Keep doing what your doing young fella, the fans enjoy watching 13 play! 10 pts, 7 ast, 3 stls. 3 rbs. BOOM!

Steve: I was criticized for spelling his last name wrong the other night, so I will stick with Steve from here on out. lol In all seriousness I didn't see this kind of game coming from him, especially so soon. I have said that Golden is hard on Odum because he didn't see his success coming so soon, well Golden I didn't see Steve playing this well this early. He had the touch early on - let me tell you how well he (and the team were shooting the ball) would make a shot and as you looked around people were just shaking their head like who the heck are these guys. 15 pts, 3 rbs, 3 ast, 2 stls BOOM!

Walker: Had a great first half, really got us going and was the major reason we got off to such a great start. His D in the paint was fantastic, he made some shots that he hadn't been making this season. Did struggle a little bit in the second half, missed a dunk. But I'm not going to be picky at this point, he played very well.

Printy: He is shooting the ball about as well as I have ever seen him shoot. Had a great bank shot leaner in the second half, he is knocking them down from all over the floor. Having him back healthy has been really important, his value to this team is not talked about enough. I am hard on him because he doesn't do much outside of shoot the 3, but he doesn't turn the ball over and he is a decent defender.

AC: I am honestly not sure what AC did tonight? lol I know that he made a few 3s and that's really all I can recall. I don't think he played major minutes in the second half, gave him a breather for fresh legs come Sunday.

Koang: Continues to rebound the ball very well for us, made a deep 3 in the first half. It was snowing outside the HC tonight, but it was raining 3s in the HC on Friday night. I did the work for you Golden, call me Rex Ryan. I get a little worried when Koang has the ball in his hand, not a very good ball handler. But that's really the only knock on his game.

Richard: Well we lead by 20 plus at half and Richard was held scoreless, that seems amazing to me. Thought he forced a few shots in the second half, but other than that Carl played a pretty good game. If the Sycamores are going to make noise in the Valley they are going to need Carl to play good ball inside. His D was pretty solid tonight on one of UNI's better players.

RJ: Shooting the rock pretty well for us right now, has given us a huge lift! Would personally like to see him be a little more selective inside, he kinda forces it sometimes but again this is me being picky (made a nice runner of the glass in the second half) Only other thing I don't get at this point is why he's shooting under 70% at the line, knock emm down like you do the 3 ball!

Martin: Thought he played good in limited minutes, had a bucket and a few blocked shots. UNI threw in the towel long before he got into the game, but he played well. Would be nice to have him back up Walker a little bit.

Eitles: Don't want to leave anyone out tonight, because this was a team effort - so here is my team effort. They both got in the game late, the handle the ball very well and they see the floor. I see them being role players for us 2 years from now. Until then it's nice to have the local flavor on the bench, like these kids and what the bring to our roster!

Now granted we have seen 3 of the first 4 Valley teams we have played on the road, but it's quite obvious to me that the Valley is down. I think we are better than every team we have seen so far. A win on Sunday would be huge, these guys should have a lot of confidence heading into that game. We keep being positive and saying that we really need Lathan and Kelly back to be serious contenders, I pose the question, do we really need those guys to be contenders? I think the most obvious answer is yes, you need their experience and athletic ability if nothing else. But we have seen the last 2 weeks what not turning the ball over will do for your team. 19 assists to 11 turnovers is fantastic basketball. Oh how sweet it is to be a Sycamore! Don't sleep on these guys.

Side note, that was a solid crowd in the HC tonight. Not a huge crowd in numbers, but from the opening tip that place was rocking pretty good. Also the Northview pep band was excellent. I aint one to get my jollies off over pep band but they were way better than Norths band. Hopefully the Sycamores won over some fans tonight!

First off... WOW that was fun to watch!! We played great TEAM ball and hustled our a**es off the entire game! Combine that with UNI having a terrible game in all areas of the game and you get a beat down of the 2 time defending champs! It is clear to me that Lathan and Kelly need to buy into what the rest of the team is doing because it is working beautifully!

The way this team is playing now is how a team is suppose to do it. They hustle, play within themselves, and make the extra pass to an open teammate instead of forcing the issue. These last two games have proven we dont need lathan and kelly to be superman they just need to be themselves and take what the defense gives them and let their teammates help them out, they are more than capable!!! Great crowd and tonight is a good night to be a tree! Now lets keep this thing rolling at Drake!

P.S. How about that Mcwhorter kid? Him and Odum for 4 years. WOOOOW:bigsmile:

wait a second a topic hasnt been posting hating all over the Students yet????

I didnt think the student turnout was horrible considering no classes yet. All I know is that was the most packed it was all year and everyone saw a great performance so hopefully they will be back for more!

Great review, SSOM. Fantastic team basketball tonight. That motion thing works pretty well when the guys run it, doesn't it??? Great defense, I heard on the radio that #52 for UNI is the only player they had that made more than ONE FIELD GOAL!!! That's some good quality "D."

As for Lathan and Kelly, I think Lansing's got himself a bit of a conundrum. How do you justify taking minutes away from the guys out there right now? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, I do think we'll need even more guns to play with the MSU's and WSU's of the conference, so having them back (as long as they play within the framework of the team) will be a boost.

This game has started me wondering, seriously for the first time, just how good are we???

Overall, good ball

This is how the team should have been playing all year. Ben Jacobson said it very well. If you're playing well, you're playing well. Have a bad game, and it shows. We played great against Bradley, Illinois State, and now UNI. If we can continue this team ball and roll on into Drake and snatch a victory, we remain right on top of the MVC.

As far as the Kelly/Lathan problem, I'm not sure what the answer is. I think you integrate them back into the flow of things slowly and hopefully they fit right in with these guys. But I agree, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Myles played very well to start off. That undercut by O'Rear was disgusting. Those are the kind of plays that result in serious injury.

Jake Odum continues to astonish everyone. This kid is a good ball handler. So is Stevie. He can step into a shot and hit. He stepped up into Dwayne's spot perfectly.

It was good to see Aaron get 6 points and JP getting 11. Koang had a pretty good game also.

R.J. is already ahead of the curve, I feel. The fact that we have four or five players out there that can hit a three at any moment is dangerous. I like the pick and roll they run between him and Odum to set R.J. up for the three. The kid has a pretty shot.

We have to figure out what is wrong with Carl. He's hitting shots, but its not quite the same as it was at the beginning of the season. He was our most consistent player, and now he's dropped off. I hope he can find his groove soon.

Overall, it was great ball. We moved the ball around the perimeter nicely, and pounded it low when we needed to. We outscored them 18-4 in the paint, and won the battle of the boards 35-30. Shooting 60 percent behind the arc (12-20) doesn't hurt either :)

We could easily be 4-0 in conference. Lets make it 4-1 after Sunday.

I don't believe what I just saw. I don't BELIEVE what I just saw!

I agree with all that has already been said. Great team basketball. Must admit I am a little concerned at how things will be when (or if) Lathan and Kelley return. What we are doing now is working so well. Great job to all tonight. Great job!!! GO TREES!!!!
:sycamores:

Great team effort tonight. The shots won't fall like they did tonight all the time but there weren't many forced shots tonight either. Most came from working the ball like were supposed to.Rebounding was ferocious, every one was contested all night long.No loss of intensity in the second half at all.Just a pleasure to watch and hopefully a sign of things to come the rest of this season. I think the guys are figuring out what it takes in this league to be competitive.

Regarding the "what the heck do we do when 2 of our best atheletes get healthy again conundrum"--I took a quick look at the stats from last year late in the season (granted, Kelly was out LONG before this point), but, Lathan was coming off the bench (after he came back from injury)--his minutes were down, but his turnovers were down and his scoring was actually pretty good (not to mention his shooting percentage was decent as well).

Some players just play better coming off the bench (I think Printy is actually one of those guys, actually). Is it possible that D-Late just needs to come in as a sixth man?

Another point to ponder--Lathan generally seems to be a "drive first" kind of player--he actually isn't a bad jump shooter at all--I think they just need to rein him in a little bit.

I agree with most all comments. A great team win. The team never let NI get started. No let downs tonight after they got a big lead.
.....and yes the North View band was great. Nice to have high school kids fill in for the pep band and do a great job. It looked like the kids had some fun while playing at the game. That has to help in terms of future students for ISU!
Nice crowd also!

For a fanbase that whines constantly about trolling, I must say that I'm impressed by the hypocrisy displayed by a few Sycamore fans posting/trolling on the Panther board right now.

You're doing exactly what you hate when people come here after a big fat L.

You need to get over your inferiority complex. It wreaks of a division 2 type institution and continues to fortify the reasons why everyone else in the Valley doesn't give you respect.

GO AWAY. DON'T COME BACK. WE DON'T LIKE YOU HERE...:censored:

Please go away... You never have anything nice to say at all and to those Sycamore fans that find it necessary to visit the boards of other teams in the Valley I ask why? Our team just did all the talking on the floor?

Thanks to those of you who posted links, it's good content to read. But leave the trolling to people like ValleyFanatic, he does a fine job on his own... He is the most classy person I have ever met on a message board, which is not saying much because message boards are far from classy and you don't actually meet people. I shoulda stayed out for another drink.

I will say guys this is just one of those games that you realized about 15 minutes in you better just sit back and enjoy. I kinda felt the same way at Evansville, but at the same time I realized we were on the road and it might have been a bit of an admiration. Tonight was different and you could tell.

A few have mentioned it on here tonight, it's as if the Sycamores hadn't forgotten about EU and they just kept shooting and kept playing hard, they were not going to let this game get interesting. UNI threw in the towel early guys, they didn't even show any signs of life in the second half.

We did play good D in the first half, without a doubt. But some of that has to go on the shoulders of UNI, they had some open looks and just missed them.

I am sure this board is guilty of many things, but having an inferiority complex is probably not one of them. I am sure you sit in front of your computer monitor late into the night thinking about what dastardly thing you can do somewhere but frankly, you are wasting your time here. Your credibility is right up there with Joran Van de Sloot as far as I am concerned.

I actually said that we were "hard" on you the other day and to my fellow boardsters, I apologize. I thought ValleyFanatic might have a purpose in life and that he was actually being sincere. Bottom line, you are full of Kansas horse manure and even GaryD deserves more attention on here than you do.

I am not saying that the TREES are going to win the conference, but we'll figure out a way to play hard and be competitive. WSU fans have ALWAYS been a classless bunch and this years "crop" seems to be right on target. I suggest you stick around here because frankly you excite our fans on here and keep it interesting. To be honest, it is fans like you that keep us from having an inferiority complex.

And God Bless America! Bally I will point out that ValleyClimber and ValleyFanatic are two different people, or so it would seem. ValleyClimber is the guy that makes the picks, usually against the Sycamores but not on this night and well I jumped his ass because his first ever post on this site was about us dropping our football program. ValleyFanatic on the other hand is a different person and he is the epitome of a troll.

You're right. SSOM. To be perfectly honest.....I didn't notice that. I simply resented his statement. I'll eat my words if we are all over the UNI board tonight expounding on how "good" we are and the outcome from tonight....and I truly doubt we are. We don't have much to brag about yet. I lasted one day on Valley Talk because of the nonsense on there and the WSU fans have much to do with that. They wrote the book on OBNOXIOUS. Trolling in Kansas? It comes with the territory. There was a reason Dorothy left Kansas.
