Tressel resigns

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel has resigned, the school announced on Monday. The story was first reported by the Columbus Dispatch.

Tressel had this to say in a statement released through the university: “After meeting with University officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach. The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”

Luke Fickell will take over as interim head coach for the 2011-12 season.

Can't help but wonder how many other BCS coaches should follow his lead and resign for the best interest of their school. I'm sure that many OSU supporters feel that his only real error was getting caught.

I'm not a fan of either school but think it would be interesting if they looked at hiring former Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.

Wondering if we'll see more "rings" in noses/ears/etc. & less tatoo$ in Columbus now?
Sad that the Big Ten shells out big $$$ for such "memories," which are virtually meaningless for many of todays players.

A Big Ten championship ring for a tatoo? Damn sad...pure "tribalism," which is NOT a cultural step forward, by any means. And to think the incident gained notoriety at THE Ohio State University, the bastian of sport perfectionism in the Big Ten.
