Another interesting page in the Steele mag. He keeps turnover records and teams that had a positive double-digit TO ratio had the same or weaker records 76.4% of the time since 1996. On that "Going Down?" list are two MVFC teams: North Dakota State and Western Illinois.

On the flipside, teams with a negative double-digit TO ratio had the same or stronger records 81% of the time since 1996. There were no MVFC teams on that list for last year. Basically his theory is if your team was overly opportunistic one year, it is unlikely they will have the same fortune the next and his stats pretty much back that up.

Where did we stack up last year? We had 20 takeaways (7 fumble, 13 INT) and had 17 giveaways (9 fumble, 8 INT), which was good for 41st in the country. North Dakota State was 7th (+15), Western Illinois was 10th (+11), Missouri State was 30th (+4), UNI was 72nd (-2), Illinois State and Youngstown State tied at 73rd (-2), South Dakota State was 87th (-5), and Southern Illinois was 98th (-7).

Will be interesting to see how we protect the ball this year. With pretty much our entire defense coming back, I'd expect them to be a little more opportunistic.

We've had 3 turnovers today with no takeaways. This will need to change next week with Butler coming to town.
