I was surprised to learn that the university where I earned two graduate degrees decided to drop baseball. UB is a school with about 30,000 students. A sign of the time. "CAMPUS NEWS

“We will work very hard to provide our student-athletes and coaches who are impacted by this decision with the support they need.”
Satish K. Tripathi, UB president
UB is reducing the number of its intercollegiate athletic programs by four, effective at the end of the spring 2017 season.

Affected teams are men’s baseball, men’s soccer, men’s swimming and diving, and women’s rowing. This brings UB’s total sports sponsorship from 20 to 16 teams. "

This is going to be the standard solution for schools to offset the cost of FBS football. Remember, you only need to field 8 women's and 6 men's sports to be Division 1 eligible. As schools look to shed costs, non revenue sports will be those to go, especially if they keep ushering in the full cost of attendance and paying players narratives.

If this article doesn't hit home with all of you then idk what will...This is not your fathers or grandfathers NCAA. Either universities move with the times or die out.

Sounds similar to what retired ISU History Prof. Gary Daily was saying a few yrs. ago...

Except he wanted to do away will all sports. What I find laughable is colleges want to say sports are businesses but don't want to operate them by those rules. Either they are or they're not. Quit setting money on fire when your customers have shown they're not interested in your product.

Rarely do I read something where I want to reach out to the writer directly and say "thank you." Although this had nothing to do with Indiana State, it rings true for SO MANY schools. We are going to get to the point where the P5 conferences align to make 4 huge conferences of 16-20 schools...all centered around football and the 4-team playoff. If you're not in that group of 64-80 schools, you might as well secede from NCAA and form a new organization because you have zero chance of competing in anything. We're pretty much there with the P5 schools making all the rules for everyone else, so...
