Twelve percent. Despite being one of just a couple revenue sports, the men's basketball program receives just 12% of the overall athletics budget. As you can imagine, this makes it very difficult for the program to have much beyond the bare necessities as most of those funds goes towards things like scholarships, salaries and travel costs. So after having the success we had back in 2014 raising $6,000 to purchase new basketball jerseys (link below if you're new or missed it), I reached out to Coach Lansing again to see if there were any needs within the program.
After thinking about it, he told me that the team had some technology needs, specifically he'd like to get iPad Minis for every player. The tablets would be used for film study, distributing weekly schedules and other program uses. If you've ever complained about players not developing enough, wrap your head around the fact that the players don't have the ability to do film study easily like most D1 programs with bigger basketball budgets have. Here is your chance to be part of the solution.
The total cost of making this happen is $4,635. That would purchase a 16GB iPad Mini and protective case for all 15 players on the roster. At $125 (the cost of joining the Varsity Club), we'd need 35 more folks to donate after I make the first $260 donation tomorrow. Can't afford $125? No problem... anything you can give towards our crowdfunding project would be much appreciated by Coach Lansing, his staff and the players.

As a reminder to all who donate, a gift of $125.00 or more will qualify you for Varsity Club membership. If you are not yet Varsity Club members, that $125 donation would get you all of the benefits that go with Varsity Club membership. If you are already Varsity Club members, it could increase their giving level/benefits for the remainder of this year and next year. The Foundation made a change at the beginning of FY16 and going forward all Varsity Club benefits will be applied based on your giving from the previous fiscal year. For example, all benefits for the 2016-17 season will be distributed based on donations made to the Sycamore Athletic Fund during FY16 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016). So if you've already made a donation but join in and make an additional gift between now and June 30, they will provide any additional benefits as applicable for the remainder of FY16, as well.
