Heritage Hills is in DALE, not Rockport...

Someone give ex-ISU I-M Staff member BOB SNYDER a call down in Spencer County and get the scoop on this kid.

The P #'s I'm looking at aren't that impressive. At 6'0", he leaves quite a void defensively in the hole @ SS. IF utility player?

Not much of a HS record:

Hannah's must've worked a deal out w/ Holiday World for the team!:grillin:

Not much to go on. He's slightly-built. Body maturation may add a mph or two. Perhaps being looked at as a reliever.

ISU signed a 1B/3B out of Jasper (Giesler) that looks like a good one...this is a good HS baseball area. The Indiana Baseball HOF is located in Jasper, and it's no fluke WHY it's there. My bet is that Mitch wants to plant a STAKE here, given the baseball history of the area, which will be a GOOD thing for ISU in yrs to come. Thinking "out of the box"...

Degroote & West Vigo channeled thru Jasper a few times during the IHSAA playoffs - he knows what I'm talking about!

I wouldn't put much into the stats. those are SO #'s.
Are shortstops supposed to be tall? (I'm just asking. I know nothing about size of baseball shortstops. I thought they needed quickness, a good glove, and a strong arm.)

Given the gap between 3B-SS & SS-2b, it's important to have RANGE defensively. Usually this is enhanced by height (6'2"+) and reach...not to diminish quickness, agility & arm strength. I've seen good shorter SS's over the years, but the majority are a DEFENSIVE liability because of the ground they fail to cover related to size. Kinda like playing a basketball G @ C...

- No power; mostly singles hitter;
- Not a base running threat;
- all other stats @ or below avg.

I'm not too sure you can paint such a broad brush when it comes to size. There are lots of smaller guys that are able to cover more ground and get to more balls BECAUSE they are a bit more compact.

Some of it has to do with being closer to the ground and the impact this has on angles as well as being able to got to balls in the hole and pivot without slowing down like a taller player might have to.

I'll agree that length can help in many ways but I think it depends on the guy. OTOH, some shorter guys may not have the arm strength that a longer levered player will have. but again, the smaller guy might rely more on a quick release, thus making up for the difference.

So overall the answer, IMO is.........It all depends on the guy.

Koby Kraemer wasn't a big kid, but he played big and was an impact player.

Ozzie Smith...5'9" in his socks

This. And Cal Ripken was 6'4 I believe.

So the correct answer is that it all depends on the guy.

Who's the tiny SS in the majors. Can't think of his name. Maybe plays(ed) for the the Red Sox? He is like 5'7 or 5'8 and doesn't have the greatest arm strength but he just makes plays.

Dustin Pedroia? 5'8' 165 lbs.
Yes. Pedroia. Thanks.

That dude has it made though.....he can walk anywhere any time and probably not get hassled because now one even realizes that tiny little guy is a big leaguer........

I can't imagine what it is like for guys like Jeter that can never have a real private life

Signed his LOI. Officially a Sycamore.
