I contacted the NCAA and was advised that the material on NCAA.com was produced by CBS Sports, not the NCAA. The NCAA, on the other hand, is responsible for material on the NCAA.org sites. Nevertheless, the man I talked to will notify CBS Sports of the errors. Lovellette certainly deserves voting consideration since he still is the only player to win the national scoring title on a team that won the NCAA championship.

Any idea what became of the huge Lovellette portrait inside the old Garfield Gymnasium before it was torn down? There were also similar life-sized portraits of Olympian hurdler Dr. Gregory Bell and Purdue All-American Terry Dischinger...all Purple Eagle's in their day.

Clyde told me that his daughter saved it when the Garfield gymnasium was evacuated and gave it to him. He then gave it to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

That seems very appropriate for a true artifact of Indiana high school basketball.

Story on Clyde Lovellette's amazing accomplishments in Sunday's Tribune-Star.

Clyde was a fan favorite while doing color on Sycamores basketball games in the second half of the '60's. The crowd always warmly welcomed him to the little radio platform high on the wall of the Arena. I still remember the Arena as a great place to watch a game in a very good home court environment.
