Wanna see a school doing it right? Check out Abilene Christian's "Vision in Action"

Check out this Abilene Christian "Vision in Action" website. ACTION being the key word here. They have info about their new $30m athletic complex. They will be jumping up to FCS in 2017 I believe. Received $55m from 3 donors but talk about doing big things right here.

Just a shot in the dark, but they could also go after you, me and the rest of the people that actually care.

Gee, they could put a plan out there and then appeal to people to help fund it. I would find it a lot easier to donate to a vision that I can actually see, like ACU's above, rather than a giant nothing like ISU has out there right now...if you "build" it, they will come...

There are any number of ways they could build interest. Could also have students, alums, season ticket holders, vote for different options (even small ones would get people interested) on any number of things. Just showing some direction and motivation on the part of the university would be a start.

It kind of concerns me that we don't have a specific plan for a stadium. Even if it was a 10k seater expandable to whatever size.

Yep. Gotta move on it. I don't think college football attendance will ever be what it once was. There was a piece on CBSSports about FBS dwindling attendance.

Football Bowl Subdivision crowds for home games averaged 43,483 fans per game, down 4 percent from 2013 and the lowest since 42,631 in 2000, according to a CBSSports.com analysis of NCAA attendance data. This marked the sixth straight season crowds were below 46,000 since they peaked at 46,456 in 2008.

So if you look at those numbers and look at the bottom 3rd, they were all pretty much 20k or under. So get the ball rolling on a two phase plan with the base stadium and seating for 8-10k and have it upgradeable to 16-20k if you ever need it. Hell, you may never need it so spend the extra money to make sure the facility is top of the line to make people want to come. Honestly, I'd rather have a stadium that seats 6-8k with premium seating than one that seats 8-10k with your traditional aluminum bleachers, especially if it isn't a dome because them shits are COLD in late October and November. I'd also rather see stuff like luxury boxes to go after businesses, a "party deck" like they had at the Indianpolis Indians game and some open green space for kids to play (like IU's South end zone) to further attract people inside.

My son also thinks it would make a difference on student attendance if you moved the student entrance from the East to the West side of the stadium. Thinks you will get people to stumble in. Would be worth a shot since a majority of students tailgate on the West side.

you know, I actually agree with moving the entrance. I think they should make an entrance on the north side also. maybe get rid of any reason possible not to come in. they need to make getting in something you can accidentally do, like apparently driving into Mexico with guns.

How about Indiana State University? I hear they dabble in oil.

That said, I'm talking about having a website with publicly viewable plans and the ability to click on Giving Opportunities and make a donation right then and there.

That's a great idea! Not to create more work for you - but maybe 5 plans and allow votes for preference (in order 1-5) just to create even more interest. A couple Dome scenarios, a few outdoor stadium scenarios... I really like an end zone patio though. Put some Rick's BBQ there with a beer stand! An alumni booth on the patio, etc. Sell ISU!
How is progress coming on this?
