I dont think we would have got in had we beat them however 7-4 would have been a guarantee.

After the UNI game, a well placed source told the ISU athletic department that a 6-5 MVFC team had a very good chance of getting in. So if we won out (ie. WIU and YSU we by default would be in as WIU would be out (5-6) instead of us. So I disagree, had we won the WIU game we would be in.

I felt at the beginning of the year that a valley team with a 4-4 conf record will get in assuming they are 2-1 in OOC games. The Valley was 16-3 against other FSC schools this year.

I will make a prediction for next season now with two assumptions; first, the MVFC has good first round playoff success again this year and second, the overall conf strength and FCS dominance stays the same next year. If these two hold true then a 6-5 MVFC team with a 4-4 conf record will also get in again.

Western Illinois at 6-5 was 5-3 in conference, not 4-4. They also blasted Eastern Illinois 33-5 in their first game of the year. Conference wins over Northern Iowa 24-19, South Dakota State 30-24 didn't hurt either.

The MVFC got 5 teams in! Great! They are all on one side of the bracket! WTF!

Regionizing these match-ups needs to stop. I understand that you don't want to make some of these teams travel across the country, but damn they need to start using some common sense on this.

I just think their 6-5 looks better than what our 6-5 would have looked. they have a OOC loss to Coastal Carolina and a win over EIU. then the YSU loss offset by wins over UNI and SDSU. they played USD rather than our MSU. all that thrown together and Im still surprised they took them over UND just based on their win total.

that being said, i think we would/could beat a lot of teams in the first round.

I hear you man & its great to be an optimist and loyal to the team but the Sycamores would not beat anyone in the first round because of their inability to control themselves and correct the stupid penalties time after time and consistently give up big plays. This year was not the year.............hope they mature some before next season?

*** and even though there are some who believe our QB is the man, he is not the "killer QB" needed to win the conference and/or advance in the playoffs.

You must be mistaking my saying he is our best option for him being a superstar.

I think we would be able to compete with:
EIU
Southern Utah
Colgate
Duquesne
Dayton
Fordham
maybe Coastal Carolina
maybe Chattanooga

We would definitely make some noise in the playoffs if we would have won the games that we should have (WIU and Illinois State). Underwood and Sewall played against Youngstown, and would have continued to improve, and it's likely that Booker could have come back. The list by NICKLZ62 above is a good list, and I'd add the conference teams also. Matt Adam was far better in his Sophomore year than Mike Perish was at the same point in his development, and Adam will continue to improve (as Perish did, and we all know how his Senior year went). Adam is clearly the best option this team had, and will have moving forward. I just don't get the negativity--sure, he missed on a bunch of passes, and needs to continue to improve his ability to read coverages and throw more accurately. His ability to escape and to make big plays with his feet was, and probably will continue to be, critical.
