If you went to per game packages like that, how quickly do you think that devolves into "I'm getting mine" and completely going away from the team goals?
Instantly. And that's why it would be HORRIBLE for college athletics. But I think something like this will be modeled in the future. Coaches have incentives built into their contracts, pro athletes do, and even a lot of everyday employees as well. What's stopping college athletics going that route?

I mean if I'm an athlete whats stopping me from going on twitter and saying "Hey guys if you enjoyed my performance tonight I'd appreciate some love. Here is my venmo info".

The purest in me absolutely hates it. But truly, how much money do you think a guy like Stetson Bennett (or anybody on the Georgia roster) could of made the night of the national championship if he would of tweeted something like that? There is money to be made and it's a matter of time before someone figures it out.

at least now the players arent the only ones that have to cheat to get part of the billion dollar industry.

right, we gave them a place to live and food. Is that what you are referring to?

well, that and the free college education, free textbooks, some/all lab fees, a training table, access to dedicated admin support

what else did I miss?

The free education is worth exactly that these days. Lab fees are handing money from 1 pocket to another and I’m pretty sure the training table is just food which I already said. I’m pretty sure they even feed people in a prison.

Your perspective is why more people aren't supportive of the tired lament "woe the poor, exploited Div I athlete..."

Your perspective caused the situation they are in now

Hardly, as I don't believe the NCAA should have ever allowed EA Sports to sell video games with former players likenesses, I don't feel Pacesetter Sports (and it's peers) should make and sell ISU gear with a current, former player's name

Given how profitable college sports has become, it was inevitable this is where we were going to get to. For schools at our level, an education is about the only thing of true value we can offer.
