Moving forward, I would be looking for a point guard that could have an immediate impact next year. I know they're high on Julian Larry, but he will be a freshman and he will take at least a year to learn the system. Bacote has shown flashes a couple games. But he needs to be ready every time he steps on the court. These small point guards we've had recently are also a liability on the defensive end. I'd take height, strength and taking care of the ball over a shooter at the PG position all the time.

Larry is it.

Make in-game adjustments as needed. Change things up occasionally on O and D. Put the ball in your best player's hands when the game is on the line. Make these guys practice free throw shooting a ton! Teach them how to be in position to defend without fouling. BE A MOTIVATOR!!

Hire Norman Dale as my new assistant; specifically to coach the players in how to "nut up" and DEFEND man to man; sprinkle in zone as necessary

continue to ignore the advice of all blog chair coaches

Good call. I'd hire Shooter Flatch as one of my assistant coaches so he can walk onto the court while drunk and shout obscenities at the refs.

I'd call a timeout immediately if the other team scored at least 7 unanswered really quick. I would not let a double digit lead dwindle to 2 points before calling a timeout. I would switch up my defenses and have multiple looks including multiple presses. If my team was not moving the ball well and was doing nothing but jacking up threes we would come up with a plan to move the ball better to get inside shots.

I'd sit Tyreke Key down and tell him that he cannot disappear in games anymore.

When the other team goes on a run and we're in the middle of a 4 minute drought, I expect you to demand the rock from your teammates and make something happen. I'd tell him I'd rather go down with him swinging as opposed to him watching his teammates take and miss shots, especially since analytics say he has the greatest shot at scoring in some capacity, drawing fouls, etc.

He should have dropped 35 last night but went dark during that stretch where Valpo turned the game around. Can't. Fucking. Happen.

Meh. Brad Stevens was once some arm chair coach until Butler decided to roll the dice. Now he is considered one of the best basketball minds and coaches on the planet. If I'm a coach I'll take advice from everyone willing to give it, especially if I think they've put in the time to observe and form educated opinions. It is then up to the coach which advice to take to heart, consider, implement.

I’m in on switching up defenses. As far as pressing, I think there’s a reason you don’t see many teams at the collegiate level press, they can be beat easily and end up in easy baskets. Not to mention your guys will tire out. Definitely something you can throw in from time to time though. Seems to me you see presses more in middle school where not everyone can handle the ball.

I would:

Activate Hankins - admittedly don't know his grades situation or anything else but we have no bench and he's got the size and athletic ability to play multiple positions. I think this team is a bench threat and some better D away from being a contender - I don't know if Hankins elevates us on D or not but he certainly can't be worse...

No more lobs from JB - the guy is an average passer at best. He's failed on multiple lob attempts all season. The lob mistake to Jake in transition at Valpo was costly. It was a bad situation to throw that anyway - given that he hasn't thrown a good lob all year that was a dumb spot to try one.

Start CWill - Not because he's earned it but I think we need some scoring coming off the bench. Maybe Cooper will respond better in that spot - he's just not playing that well as a starter of late. I think I'd mix it up and start CWill for Cooper.

Figure out the Agbo situation quickly - I want to be somewhat sensitive because I couldn't even leave Terre Haute to go to college let alone leave my family and my country behind. I've never had to face that sort of adversity - admittedly I was afraid to ever leave and love it here too much. But not having production out of that roster spot has hurt or depth and put our two Frosh bigs in a difficult spot. They've preformed well but we need other bigs for spot minutes. The Brinkmeyer and Agbo situation has really been an issue this conference season. If he can't get healthy and figure it out Lansing needs to find someone to fill the roster spot this off season.

Would never have Cobie Barnes, Jake and Tre on the floor at the same time again this season. They're not good enough on D to be on the floor at the same time with those guys. Cobie Barnes is lost most of the time - seems like a great teammate but he's got a long way to go.

I'd probably spend 1 practice a week on free throw shooting entirely - as bad as we've been we probably just need to spend an entire practice shooting free-throws. A few on here have played ball with me for awhile - I'm not giving anyone shooting lessons anytime soon. But this is D1 basketball - make the F'ing free throws.

I'd take the ball out of JB's hands under 4 minutes left in the half or the game. I might even have him sitting beside me so he can't hurt me. He's been the most unclutch player I can recall us having - maybe ever for a guy who has put up the numbers that guy has put up. I hope he doesn't read this shit because I really hate bashing him like that - he can score the basketball - he just hasn't hit many big buckets and it's frustrating to me.

Lastly for now - I'd probably be making quite a bit of noise around the new Indiana State logo that is going to be released in early March or so and replace the exsisting state of Indiana / Sycamores logo. What gives them the right to ever change it? Why are we wasting resources on new branding? I'm looking at you Ace Hunt and anyone else involved with this moronic decision. That logo means something to some of us - we wore that logo - we fought for Indiana State in that logo - we ran for our now deceased coach in that logo - it means something and you just go and change it to what leave your mark on the program? Shameful.

I cannot agree more. Every close game we have lost TK has disappeared at key points in the game when we really needed him. If he is the leader everyone around the team says he is, then the ball should be in his hands when things are starting to go south.

Full court or 3/4 court press the entire game. Our half-court defense is still putrid, and we have the athletes to disrupt other teams defensively if we put them in the position to do so. Christian Williams at the top of a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 press would be devastating. It would also give him a purpose. He'd be the tip of the spear defensively, and I think he would react positively to that. Also, there aren't a lot of great ball handlers in our league. I think we could force a lot of turnovers. I'd rather go down being aggressive than watching us get picked apart (literally) in the half-court.

I also would start Christian Williams over Neese. We need Neese to be that bench scoring threat and spark plug that we currently don't see with our second unit.

There are also other more drastic changes I would make, but I'll leave those comments to myself.

I would press Northern Iowa the entire game for sure and completely expose them. They still can't handle it to this day.

Also I hadn't heard about the logo change, but I'm sure it will end up being worse than what it is now. Unless the change is simply moving the star northwest so it is actually on Terre Haute instead of Linton.

Now you know how a lot of people felt when they got rid of the Chief and Princess and gave us some stuffed animal as our mascot. That was shameful! We had something good that was a link to the wabash valley's history. I don't think we ever had stuffed animals living here.

Absolutely. Go back and look at the "Larry Bird: A Basketball Legend," video and listen to Larry talk about his sophomore year. He said that over the last 15 games or so, he averaged over 40 per game. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HE HAD TO DO FOR THE TEAM TO WIN. Tyreke needs a bit more of that attitude. I think everyone would be fine if he decided he was tired of waiting for the other guys to pick up the slack. He starts putting in 25-30 points every game, we're gonna win more often than not...

Wow scary! I agree with everything you said.

If that's the best you guys have, we're in pretty good shape.

I saw two good big 10 teams over the weekend go 7 and 8 min without scoring.

The worst play of the game was when JB threw away the lob pass right after we had taken a 2 pt lead. That was the time to work for a high % shot and put some pressure on them by going ahead by 4.
