Matt Langel from Colgate is intriguing. Has turned that program into a consistent winner and (assuming we don’t drop back down to 275k), we could make a competitive offer.

Sure competitive but the ISU job gives him less snow to shovel every season - nothing more

Zak Boisvert? Was assistant here, now at George Washington. Would definitely be a flyer but who knows nowadays. I really am curious what our budget will be for the new coach
I'd be down for Zak. But he might be TOO familiar with ISU.

Just for "Around the Valley" rumors:

SIU appears to be targeting Preston Spradlin of Morehead State

UIC seems to be targeting Robert Jones of Norfolk State and AW Hamilton of Eastern Kentucky

Missouri State had been targeting Northwest MIssouri State's Ben McCollum and he just lost in the D2 tournament tonight.

Very solid list of coaches joining the Valley, if it holds. Really hope we can recover quickly from this and add another high caliber coach

The idea behind Graves seems to be that he'd be the one to keep the most players/recruits. But my hunch is Schertz will take every player/recruit of high-priority with him, which would defeat the purpose and benefits of giving the job to Graves. Nothing against him or anything, he's been a great assistant.

Purdue assistant, Terry Johnson, is a name to watch for any mid major coaching job as well. I prefer someone who’s been a head coach, as they’ve done it and can bring some players with them.

I will continue to contribute to NIL because that’s the only way to get the goods. Coaches are requesting NIL funding when applying for jobs. We can’t have them come in bare or we will miss some good potential coaches
I'd be less likely to want to give to it now. What's the point of paying these guys when they're probably just going to turn around and leave eventually anyways? In a worse case scenario if our starting 5 is playing for SLU next season, I for one would be grateful I didn't give any of them my hard earned money just to leave.

Whoever our new coach is needs to be someone that can recruit year after year, because these players need to start being viewed as one year commitments. Anybody that actually starts here for more than 2 years going forward will likely be a rarity. It sucks, but it is what it is.

The university needs to be ready tonight to offer the job to the highest assistant interested. We don't need to go thru the six month coach search. How did that work for president?

You are right, we need to be ahead of this, ready with as much money as possible to quickly strike back after this massive stab in the back. However, this is Indiana State we are talking about and in my 40 years I have never seen them handle anything of this nature the right way. So there is that positive to look at, Ha!

John Groce @ Akron. He is making ~750k a year. Maybe too pricey but he has been great at the MM level at Akron & Ohio. If he had been at Illinois during the NIL era, he would have been successful. He unfortunately never had a plan C on recruiting and always went after 5* when he should have been after 4* guys.

Conwell will probably be at IU from what I’ve gathered.
