Let's speculate for just a minute - McKenna appears to be the obvious choice as the next head coach at Creighton (at least in my mind). Who would be your choice as the next head coach?

I think everything would really point toward a guy like Lansing getting the job. Fact of the matter is Indiana State is a stepping stone job for most young first time head coaches - you might as well get used to that. I would hope that they would open this up for a national search and my hope is that former Indiana State assistant Rick Ray applies - he would be my first choice...

I'm not convinced that he wants to be a head coach - but he has really been a winner everywhere he been...

Any other names you would like to throw out into the hat - given something like this becomes a reality?

Good question - I think that is a good name to throw into the hat. Good one, I like that... Still I want to hear Rick Ray's name thrown into the equation. This guy is prime to be a great college coach, I really believe that.

ooo I would love to have Lickliter...Would he come to state tho? thats a pretty big change...
 
I don't know what his circumstances were at Iowa, but he sure didn't do very good at Iowa. He does know Jake Kelly though, that's for sure.

I would prefer younger coach with Indy connections like Coach Ray or how about Matthew Graves from Butler..
 
If we hire Rick Ray I'm done. He was our lead recruiter during some of our leanest times. I would like Lansing to get it but I will just trust RP.

too many ass'ts --- i want someone who's been a head coach, at some level, before they get/take the State job

Wouldn't Lick coming to state and re-joining Jake Kelly be interesting? lol If Jake Kelly can put up the numbers he did under Lick during his last season at Iowa that would be nice!

I think Jake, even after surgery is capable of playing at the level he did at Iowa. I mean not to compare him to Brandon Roy, but Brandon Roy came back to play a week after Arthroscopic Knee Surgery - so I think he will be fine...

As for Lick coming to state? I don't know much about him - does he have family in Indiana still? Has he been in the conversation for any other jobs this off season? I mean it's not like he's a hugely sought after candidate after all of his troubles at Iowa, with transfers left and right and an abysmal record...

Still in favor of Rick Ray as a possible replacement - he has been a good assistant coach at Indiana State then at Purude. He is ready to be a head coach, assuming he wants to be.

Id imagine this will all happen fast....Right in the middle of recruiting time.

MVC is a better MBB Conf than the MAC; Groce would be closer to his hometown than his current job; he's only been there 1 season...

Anyone know Mrs. Groce's hometown?
 
They only way ISU will ever hold onto a quality coach for a extended period of time is to hire somebody in the age range of Royce Waltman. Those coaches are few and far between. Does anybody know of any ISU alum that is an assistant or head coach at the college level that would want to come back and have loyalty to the school?
