I think something that is touched on, but not explicitly said in the article, is that under the new NIL/transfer portal world a coach can also bring over a team/key players.

Devries is a great coach, but how much of the hire is also getting a year out of his all conference son?

I think you'll start to see this more and more (and unfortunately for State we are seeing some of it first hand) where mid-major coaches that have players with eligibility left are going to be an especially hot commodity for a team looking to do an immediate rebuild.
