Ticket Office Open Labor Day; Special Offer For Opener Announced

The Youngstown State Athletic Department, in honor of Labor Day, is offering the fans of the Mahoning Valley a special FREE ticket offer on Monday, Sept. 3 only. For every reserved or general admission game ticket purchased on Monday each fan will receive a FREE ticket of equal value. The ticket office at Stambaugh Stadium will have special hours from Noon to 5 p.m. on Monday.

What do you think--would something like this increase attendance for the ISU home opener next week? Would it be the same number of paying fans with a lesser total gate? With a good showing at IU last night will Sycamore Nation show up in high numbers?

I doubt it. Several reasons, from where I sit. The #1 reason, getting the ticket office to open on Labor Day...that is a problem. I would say, if you did something like, give tickets to the Athletic Foundation to sell to raise money...then maybe. It could, but it would take a lot of convincing for it to work.

The students get free admission anyway. The only people that would really benefit would be those living in Terre Haute and the surrounding communities. They are important but I feel this particular idea wouldn't work here. If we would try a mail order 2 for 1 with a self addressed stamped envelope and a credit card it might work for a much larger area. Headaches, maybe, but worth a try IMHO.

Not gonna happen. After last years' last game, I think they could give away every ticket for free and not fill the stadium. Apathy, disinterest, economy...any number of reasons for the dismal showing, but the people that show up regularly know that the product on the field is entertaining and that the kids and the coaches are working extremely hard to perform at a level that we can be PROUD of!

I understand this and expect you are most likely right. Tickets for ISU games are one of the biggest bargains in college athletics as it is.

Hopefully they work a little harder to get more students to the game. Of all the markets that they have, this one is the no brainer, and strangely enough, the one that seems to have had the least attention paid to it. Perhaps our own Mr. Lynch can have an impact on it.

Consistent winning, good weather, and lots of word of mouth will affect the "townie" crowd over time...

The work of the Forest on Facebook has been pretty good. Check out the Forest.

I am on Facebook several hours every day, and I only saw the "Forest" yesterday. (I'm not a student.) They need to put it out there on Twitter and wherever else to get more people to know about it.

Most college kids have abandoned Facebook because it is "no longer cool" now that it has been overtaken by "old people" -- that is a direct quote from my high schooler. The only social network he uses regularly now is Twitter.

That said, and I'm sure Lynch knows, the only thing that will really work is getting out on campus and getting in front of people. I believe he had something in the fountain area. IMO, they now need to get IFC/PHC on board and re-institute the IFC/PHC points for fraternity/sorority attendance. A large population on campus has Greek ties and getting them back out to the stadium regularly will go a long way.
