ISU_Muncee gets $87.5M for science building

Ball State University's efforts to build a new science building will get an $87.5 million boost from the state of Indiana. The Legislature has appropriated the money for a new, 175,000-square-foot building to house the university's biology, chemistry and geology departments. It's the second sciences building that lawmakers have funded for Ball State in recent years. Two years ago, the Legislature earmarked $62.5 million for a new college of health building to house nursing and health sciences programs.

I am wondering if the rejection may have been spurred on by a lack of approval on Terre Haute and ISU's part and that they may well make the funding available when the two of them get their collective asses moving on the project. No point in approving a project that is far from a completed form. I truly do not think we have heard the end of this. It is my understanding that TH and ISU are far from getting the finances in line and the legislature may not be in the mood to approve something that the city and university have not jumped and said YES to.

In the past 5 years we have snagged quite a few of our own. I mean hell look at the transformation on campus..it's amazing what 10 years has done for ISU...almost everything brand new. Now if we could just get the HC we would be set for awhile

There were a total of nine communities that asked for a food and beverage tax for various local projects all nine were turned down. It was not just a TH/Vigo County rejection. What is the hotel tax in Vigo County?

Ford mentioned this, but is anyone privy to the other eight (8) projects that were seeking assistance? I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth. If you'll recall, he lied on his "candidate background" in defeating incumbent TIM SKINNER last election.

Food & Beverage tax is limited to 1% Municipality and 1% County.

Here's a chart of IN hotel tax rates, by COUNTY:

I'll say it again...this decision was full of PARTISAN POLITICS. Why otherwise would HENRY COUNTY be able to move forward w/ their "Ivy Tech" initiative?

I live in Hancock County and was one of the nine turned down for a food and beverage tax increase of .01% for the purpose of building a new 4-H fairgrounds with a small convention/banquet hall. This was the second year in a row we were turned down. Looks to me like Vigo County can afford to raise their hotel tax about .01 to .015. Where else are people going to stay the closest decent hotels are in Greencastle.
