We talk a lot about "marketing" around here and we talk a lot about televised home games.

I certainly don't want to put the cart ahead of the horse - as Sycamore fans we've been bitten by that snake one to many times in the past. So without assuming anything - but if the Sycamores can win at Drake you set up a pretty big ball game vs. Creighton on Feb. 6.

It got me thinking - how big would it have been from an "exposure" or "marketing" standpoint for WTWO to have covered that game last night? I mean the average fan would have been able to watch that game and then you'd have a trickle down effect - those people might have posted on Twitter or Facebook, maybe texted or called a family member. All the sudden you generate a little buzz and selling out the Feb. 6 game doesn't seem so far out.

Insted - we televise most home games (thankfully not Feb. 6). Not to mention the games that are televised are poor in quality - surely they can put a better product out than what they do??

They have got to be smarter about what games they decide to show on TV. I mean anyone that knows anything about the MVC schedual can look at the Wichita State game in the Pre-Season and go that's probably going to be a big game. I feel like a big oppertunity was missed last night.

Honestly, it's the reason that some people in Terre Haute have a hard time getting behind the Sycamores. They want to believe in Indiana State, but Indiana State gives them every reason not to believe.

I think we need to make sure that wtwo knows that there are people watching these away games. It would be great if everyone sent an email to them letting them know that they appreciate it. They have broadcast more away games this year than they have as long as i can remember.

Once they know that the demand is there, the advertisers know that they're getting their money's worth...and they can invest in some better relay equipment.

I'm not sure when Nexstar plans to have their own HD broadcast capabilities, but they better do it soon now that WTHI is broadcasting local extents in HD.

If the ISU contract comes up, and WTHI bids on the deal with HD coverage and away games, that will be hard to resist.

Surely they have an idex rating - they know roughly how many people are watching.

No one ever asked me if i watch...and i watch the over air signal.- so no numbers going back from cable/sat "spying"

I'm sure they get some numbers...wouldn't hurt to make sure they know....especially about the away games.

With CBS programming generally being higher rated than NBC I'm not sure they will ever bid on ISU sports that would pre-empt network shows.WTWO does seem to do it as an afterthought but anything is better than nothing. With todays' satellite feeds they should be able to carry the other teams' feed if the advertising is there.Don't know if the day will ever come that the local crew broadcasts the away games as in the Bird era.

I live in Virginia and the best way for me to catch regular season games are when they are on ESPN3, like last night's game which I watched on my iPad. I did Sycamore Vision for awhile but the video quality was poor and unreliable. I hope they start looking at better ways for the non-Terre Haute market to watch games, especially basketball. They made some good strides the past two years with the football games - although this may be because ESPN3 and the MVC have an increased interest in showing ISU games these past couple years since our team isn't half bad.

Even during the Bird era, they would buy the video feed from the other team's local station, and then simulcast the radio feed on top of it. It wasn't always pretty, but it worked. And it kept Bob Forbes on his toes - he was never sure if they would break to a commercial or keep it at the game. Sometimes it was downright funny!!!

Honestly, I know several people in town, some with season tickets, that have chosen to stay at home and watch on TV instead of making what I have heard called a 'long drive' north into the downtown. Makes me laugh and cry at the same time. I wish ISU-WTWO would do more road games and less home games.

AND GET HD CAMERAS!

I'll admit that I don't know much about television rights and TV contracts, but how can the game be broadcasted by WSU on one channel and on WTWO at the same time? WSU and their network affiliate who's broadcasting the game own the rights to the game; why would they allow WTWO to air it? From a business standpoint, that doesn't make any sense. The local network is paying the camera operators, producers, on-air talent, etc., and I don't see them just allowing WTWO, an NBC affiliate, to piggy-back off of their broadcast. I could be wrong, but I don't think it works that way.

CBS and Fox don't air the same football games, why would two seperate networks air the same basketball games?

Yeah well under that same logic - the NFL blacksout games in local markets unless they are sold out. Every home game would be blacked out to our market - how awesome would that be!'

I'm pretty sure two TV networks - seeing as how WTWO is a local station can broadcast a game.

The Creighton game was broadcast using their feed and announcer . I would say its an agreement that if you let us do it we will do the same when you come here. Just a guess.

I'm not following you. How does my logic equate to NFL blackouts?

Also, if you're talking about just airing the game as a simulcast then that's different. If WTWO is just airing the WSU broadcast, that's a different story altogether.

Wtwo would have to BUY the feed one of two ways...
1. Simulcast- Simply air their feed. Not local friendly, including advertisers.
2. Video only- Would cost more as they would also use local commentators and commercials.

It happens all the time...

Makes sense, and I agree. The opening post mentioned the need for "WTWO to have covered that game last night." I took that as WTWO actually broadcasting the game and not doing #1 or #2 you mentioned above.
