I just drove the entire length of the Baja Peninsula last year and it's easily the best road trip I've ever done. I saw several RV'ers down there, but the honest truth is that taking any kind of RV or camper south of the border is a bad idea. You really want to do everything you can to try to blend in as much as possible, and an RV or camper does the exact opposite and just draws way too much unwanted attention. You're basically asking to get harassed if you take one of those.

Yep, I've actually seen this quite a bit in traveler/ex-pat vlogs on YouTube. Common denominator was most of them being in some sort of RV/motorhome and pretty much every one of them had to pay bribes.

Don't really have a Top 5. I'm a big fan of the West Coast (love hotter weather with little humidity) and my favorite place to visit is probably the Laguna Beach area in California. I usually roll my eyes at the whole "it's a vibe" stuff but I definitely feel that way there. Big fan of the Pasadena/Santa Ana/San Marino, CA area as well.

I know very few people visit the interior of California, but I enjoyed driving through the San Joaquin Valley and seeing all of the orchards in bloom. Crop diversity we don't get to see in the Midwest, as well as the food stands selling produce every few miles.

Honestly, most Americans have no business ever driving around in (real) Mexico anyways, unless they've really done some serious research.

Detroit Michigan, st Louis Missouri, Gary Indiana, Memphis TN, Baltimore Maryland. All low crime areas. Chicago Illinois could be on the list too. Actually I've only been to st Louis and Chicago. I almost drove in to Gary at night back in 1991. I saw the Gary city limit sign and did a U-turn on US 20.

Maine is one of the best states in the Union! AZ of course, VA has it all, Hawaii obviously
I have to agree with you about Maine. We are heading back at the end of next month. Honestly, any New England state is a favorite. Not too thrilled about Florida anymore, but we do return to Key West for Christmas every year.
