love watching this kid play

I covered the TH North-Warren Central game last week. This kid is a real prospect. Has a nose for making big plays. He knows how to raise his game.

Gabbard is a playmaker. I dont think he gets enough touches. On kickoffs he is a fun guy to watch, not shifty, but runs fast, low to the ground and has decent speed. He has also played basketball and runs track at North, he is a great athlete.

Im not sure about the WR part, he is a rb at north, goes in motion almost every play. He does catch the ball good, maybe ore of a slot back than a pure WR or RB.

while he plays more of a running back/wingback position at TH North....

He would be a receiver on the collegiate level.....and like I said earlier...he really reminds me of Joe Downing, who played at ISU back in the mid-1980s......Joe was a multi-sport athlete.....track guy....hurdler.....not very big.....had pretty good speed.....great hands (except for the potential game-winning TD he dropped in the back of the end zone at Florida in 1983, lol).....very good route runner....very heady....good mind for the game, as he should since his dad was a football coach.....good guy too.....

He had a really good game at Northview. He can juke the defender, and he certainly knows how to get to the endzone. He would be a very good pick up for the Sycamores.

Man I swear I should have gone out for football in high school instead of track - size would not have been a problem 6"0 170 and that's my track and field weight. Just think if I actually hit the weight room like a football player does - I could have had all my college paid for instead of part of it (we all know track don't have the kind of money to hand out like football). I know I was athletic enough to play WR in high school, I just didn't want to take a beating.

I am pretty sure I could play WR for Indiana State today with 0 experience playing organized football in my life and that's not disrespect to anyone currently on the roster at that position. Kent and Gray were both teammates of mine on the track team and KT is a really good friend of mine. But damm 6"0 170 is a dime a dozen - let's get some WR with some hight, some bigger targets that can go up and get the ball in a crowd.

Kramer, Kyle Tony, Kent and Gray all the same types of WR none of these guys are vertical players and all 4 our small targets.

The problem with that logic is that you assume they can play. None of them have proven to be effective, and I don't see anything changing there. So sure, if you want to compare yourself to them, fine, but you said yourself you didn't want to take a beating--what do you think you would see in the MVFC? We don't need giants but someone over 6-0 and weighing more that 185 would be a nice start.

We need playmakers whether they're 5'9" or 6'9". I don't know if Gabbard is that person or not, but he is a gamebreaker in high school.

I would also love for us to get a big, possesion receiver. I think if I was going to get any WR from THN, it would be Aaron Allen. 6'4" 220, athletic, runs decent, pretty good hands and just scratching the surface on how good he can be.

There are all of 4 (yes 4) receivers that size that see significant time on ALL of the other teams in the MVFC. Two of them are from Florida, one from Tennessee, and one was an All-MVFC kick returner as a true Freshman last year. We field an entire team of them, and none of them can run routes or have hands. The WRs that we will see this week at ISU--6-2, 185, 6-3 208, and 6-4, 215. These type of kids are obviously available, but apparently not where we are recruiting.

I found some youtube videos of O'Leary, Allen, and Gabbard.

The first one is last year and is basically a highlight video of O'Leary. He is #4. Gabbard is #21 and Allen is #88. They show up a couple times.

The next one is highlights from the THN-Northview game from this year. They have the same numbers.

Gabbard is a very good player, runs a 4.58 40 and has a 34 inch vertical. If he was to play in college he is a very good slot reciever BUT what most people dont know is that the kid is an excellent DB and hits hard, covers the field well, and has a good football IQ. He is also a very good returner and has a nack for finding a gap and shooting hard into it. He has hardly worked on his fitness at all, if he hits the weights hard for one year, theres no telling how much better he could be.

i've seen gabbard play in th north games that i have covered....

and I really like him...he reminds me of Joe Downing, a guy who played wide receiver and returned punts for Indiana State back in the mid-1980s....Joe was a football/track guy....a hurdler in high school at lafayette jeff....that's what sold Raetz on him during the recruiting period....his overall athletic skills...not just his skills as a football player...which were considerable...his father had been a high school coach...and his younger brother was a quarterback, Scott Downing, who went on to play at Purdue...and is now a college assistant coach.....and an older brother, Curtis, played baseball for a time at Indiana State...the father, along with joe and the older brother, all attended indiana state.....

You had two WR's who quit or transferred after their freshman season of 2008 that fit this bill perfect. One was a legitimate 6'3 190, who could jump out of the roof and the other was 6'2, 200, who was just as athletic, but slightly faster. One was red-shirted, and one played sparingly. Also, for all the bickering about not having a Wr, who can catch, you did have one. Miles said one of those kids had the best hands on the team and he was only a freshman. Losing both those kids led Miles to switch Robert's to Wr at the start of the 2009 season. Though, I believe Robert's is best suited for defense.
I had another account name but I forget it, so I made a new one.

Not sure who you're talking about. Were they walk-ons that weren't rostered? I know Koby Kramer was one of the Frosh WRs in '08. I think there was also one from Vincennes that played a little bit on special teams--if he is one of the WRs that you seem to be suggesting would have played, I don't think so.
