This was discussed in another thread, so this is a repeat, but i'll be glad to give my opinion.
1) We are losing Lathan, Printy and Richard and lost AC. I think we should take another shooter now if we can get a good one.
2) After Walker is gone, we will have Kitchell (so) RJ (jr) and Gant (?) that are capable of playing the 5 if we don't sign another one next year. And that could possibly be a Juco if needed.
3) If Kitchell is good enough then we have a scenario that he will get 25+min and Gant needs 25+ minutes. We have some combo forwards and they all cannot play the 3. So we will have some 3-4 combos that we need to get on the floor. I'm talking about KD, R Smith, Arop, Bell.
Bottom line is I think we are well stocked at the 3-4-5. If we end up without a true center, then I'm comfortable using Gant or RJ. I love mobility and versatility, and I don't think we have to have a 6'9" post guy.
If we were in the Big East or Big Ten, then we would need a couple of good 6'9" or 6'10" guys, but we go decades without having a true, post-up, back-to-the-basket, defensive, 6'9" center. That's the nature of being a mid-major.
And I love shooters.
Tend to agree with this - still nice to have a banger. But you'd have to assume that Gant, Smith and Kitchell should be able to rebound the ball well from the 4 or 5 positions. That's really what I worry about the most, between rebounding and post D. This team made it's season last year on good team D, I don't want us to lose that identity. Myles Walker, although not a great 5 offensively is a pretty good darn defender when he's not in foul trouble.
