They got a good recruiting class with big names, but for it's mid major size and given our history (of being a losing program) I think that the Sycamores have landed a pretty solid recruiting class myself.

Have yet to see Kitchell, but our last 3 classes, counting the one coming in, I think, are a move up. I can see us starting to get better ones down the road with continued success. Remember, if you "adjust" for the local recruits, it's not as good. In other words, if Gant and Odum were from Topeka KS, we wouldn't have done as well in our recruiting.

Exactly! He's saying that some people will not give the recruiting of these players as much "love" because they were local kids - not just local kids, local kids from Terre Haute, IN. We can't possibly grow division 1 talented athletes in this city.

I would say thats probably the perception amongst many folks on this board, if you are spending all these resources recruiting locally then you are not getting the best talent out of your scholarships. Better players to be had in other parts of the country. Thus Gant and Odum come from Columbus, Ohio they are going to be more highly touted based on perception... If that makes any sense. lol

Does look like a stacked class. Guess we'll find out how good a coach Crean really is shortly.

Don't think any more time or recruits are needed to draw a conclusion about that. He won't be around when these incoming players are upper classmen. Crean is not a Pitino or Calipari and will never get these guys to listen to and play for him. He is a recruiter; no more, no less.

I am no IU fan, but you are too harsh on Crean. He will be around when these guys are playing, I guarantee you that. If you really think he is going to bring in the top recruiting class and then get fired, well you're on something. It doesn't matter if he is a great coach because with the players he is bringing in they could make the NCAA tourney with me as their head coach. Considering they will already have Zeller and don't forget Hulls, Watford, and Creek will all three be seniors. They will have a very good team in a couple of years and Tom Crean will be the head coach. With that being said, I am not thrilled with their success I can see in the very near future! Lol.

I agree more with Teamwork. He is going to have to coach a whole lot better than he has so far. He was supposed to have a good Soph class. Look what Butler did last year with their Sophomores. Some of IU's players still look like they don't know what they are doing.

His soph class has no where near the talant of Jeremy, Yogi, and Hanner. You have to realize when these guys get there, those soph's will be seniors.

Have you seen them play? They let Iowa score 90 pts. If Butler is getting 100% out of their talent and we get 90%, then IU is getting 70%. You can tell if a team is well coached regardless of whether they have talent or not.

What the hell does 90 points against Iowa have to do with IU's 2012 team?? Yeah I have seen them play, I'm guess a few moretimes than you. Did I compliment Crean's coaching?? I'm pretty sure I said I could coach their 2012team to the NCAA tourney, meaning Crean won't have to do a spectacular job to have a winning team.

Agree that talent sometimes can overcome poor coaching but more often than not, poor coaching can f#%* up their mind. That's where I am coming from.

:imslow:

I agree with that, but as bad of a job Crean has done in the last few season, I think even he can find success with IU's 2012 team!! Lol.

All i mean is, if Odum and Gant lived in Wyoming, they probably would not be playing for us. That makes sense, doesn't it?

Ok. I just didn't understand. They may have gone somewhere else, but it's quite possible that we would have been recruiting them if they lived in Wyoming.

I'm sorry. I thought you said Crean could coach. If you are saying the players are good enough to win with a bad coach, I don't agree.

we may have gotten off track. TC has been there 3 yrs and started at ground zero. He needs another 2 yrs. i just have not seen any signs that tell me he is a better-than-average coach and that may not be good enough a IU.
That's all I'm sayin'.

Hollowell said he wanted to be in a "fab five". My wife and i just talked about these guys. We have seen most play on TV. Like she said, they don't look like McDonald's all americans. I don't know that they are good enough to win the big 10.
It will be interesting to see these guys against the all-stars this summer. I plan on going to both games and they will be on TV multiple times. I'm predicting that the Seniors win easily.
