Unless this young man wants to transfer back down to D2 (as Jason illustrated how he could excel), he should absolutely come out of the portal, back to ISU and be a solid role player with us. Dude could avg 6pts a game (scoring 1 to 3 three-pointers a game).

He really would be better served to go back to D2 in my opinion. Sorry.

If we were returning our starting five, I’d probably agree with you. But our cupboard is lean if not bare, keeping another guy (such as Mason) with knowledge of our offensive system, would be an asset.
I agree. I checked and the last 2 years he shot .46 and .43 from 3 in conference games. That has to be desirable for rebuilding a team practically from scratch.

Disagree. Miller was constantly outmatched on the defensive end. You could literally see the other team targeting him and getting him to switch on the ball and then taking him too the hole. It wasn't for a lack of trying/effort but Miller was just not built for D1. It's worth the risk to use his scholarship on someone else. At worse, you will get someone that could match his production.

Really?

If MM could hit his shots he could be deadly for us, but he hasn't done it yet in two seasons. I was surprised he didn't transfer after the 22-23 season.

Same here. Other teams had a “take it to the hole when 12 switches onto you” offense. Not sure how Backer couldn’t see that.
Well, whatever, he was a role player. His 3% was far and away the best on the team the last 2 years in the conference games. If I was a coach and I had a guy that could shoot in the 40's I would make sure he got more shots and the other team could try to score on him as much as they want.
I saw Menser get eaten a few times defensively but he wasn't playing on team like we had last year.
If you cut a player like Miller you are assuming we can "replace" last years' roster with 10 really good players (some of which are FR and will not be ready)?

Sorry for beating a dead horse.

Miller was actually a good defender on the perimeter - the problem was with our switching 1 through 4 (often 1 through 5) he was getting caught down low against a bigger player. That coupled with the fact that Robbie was a poor rim protector made Miller vulnerable.

Sooooo... I didn't think I had a dog in this fight - but as I am sitting here reflecting I actually do and it might not be the one you suspect. Ya all seem pretty happy to hear that Graves plans try and emulate the JS offense, no?

So, we have Vorst, Gray and Daughtry coming back right? Who is the only player left with a chance to come back that understands our current system better than those 3 guys? Correct, Miller. How many times did you hear our previous coach talk about "corporate knowledge" too many F'ing times, right? So that's one argument - you bring MM back because he has corporate knowledge of our offense and honestly besides longevity he's probably the better leader of those other 3 to actually help people get in the right spots and the right times to understand what they are trying to do.

Another reason I wouldn't mind to see them bring him back... You know what you are getting with MM and you know what you are bringing off the bench. Something to be said for that vs. 10 guys that have never played a single minute for us. Some of them are going to have some unknowns, things we didn't prepare for - with MM you know exactly what you are getting and the exact situations in which you would bring him into a game (think end of half or game need a 3, think matchups). He's also seems to be a team first guy - last thing we need are a bunch of "individuals" look to propel themselves into the next best NIL deal.

I would really challenge you all to look beyond the numbers when evaluating the value a player like MM could have on this roster. Don't be so dense and just assume this guy can't defend well enough or he can't shoot the 3 consistently enough.

* Note: I highly doubt he's back. But I wouldn't be disappointed at all if he did come back.

We know what Miller's ceiling is after two years. He also has no positional versatility so where you can play him is extremely limited on top of that.

I would rather take a flier on a boom or bust type of prospect versus bringing Miller back.

Fair enough... So you don't buy the previous coaches media bull shit that he said once every other press conference "corporate knowledge". You probably bought it at the time - but not now. Got it. :ROFLMAO:

No, I believe in corporate knowledge however it wasn't like he was some tenured professor like Bledson. Further, it's a new coach and while he said he wants to continue the style, I'm sure he will develop his own flavor of 5-out based on his influences, his assistants and their influences, etc.
