I see what you did there....oh well, he wanted out, left and we didnt have quite as good a year as it could have been. Maybe next season or two we get over the top!

Yep, he got his storybook desire to wear a really ugly ass shade of orange.

But yeah, I think we were one more MVC level guard away.

Drake couldn’t handle Miami’s press. Completely changed the game at the end.
FDU had Purdue out of sorts with a press, Kennesaw led almost the whole game against X creating havoc with a press. We’ve seen it a lot that last two days and I’m not sure why more teams don’t do it and switch to a zone for a few possessions throughout a game. Love watching coaches make in-game adjustments to win a game.

Not the best coaching job for Drake. Needed a solution for the press (not getting the ball in the corner maybe ???)
Stop putting the ball in your son's hands -- wasn't his night.
Stop waiting till the last 3-4 seconds to try to score -- this is often the error many mid-majors make in these situations ....play well, lead most of a game vs high major. Then dribble/pass away the lead in the past 4 - 5 minutes by waiting too long into the clock.
So Drake coach -- who got you that 6 pt lead ???
Too bad, Drake could have been a Sweet 16 team after beating IU Sunday......or maybe Kent State

Most of the upsets happen with terrific guard play and against teams with their biggest strength being their Center. If I’m JS, I’m working the portal hard for a guy that can handle the ball, get his own shot and relay on late in the shot clock/game. We need a dog!!!

Elite guard play has always won in the NCAA… It’s not a coincidence we were unbeatable this year when Larry was Elite. When he was average - we were average. This team was a consistent/elite PG away.

Drake and Bradley were a fraud. We were literally like a piece away… Or just some mental fortitude away. The best team in the Valley this year was in Terre Haute. We just couldn’t win the big games.

Put that on a t-shirt - you'll make millions... well, at least thousands

That’s so true tho! Based on what I saw today and at the time I really believed it was the right call - the loose ball foul on Larry was pretty 50/50. The ball just didn’t bounce our way. This was a really good basketball team. The best 5th place Valley team you will ever see.

People on here think I hate this team. Or hate this coach because I think the CBI is a crock of shit. Go back to the Lansing era thread I said the same shit. The same people keep getting offended. It’s so funny. They’re so happy being the CBI. 🤣🤣

Was at the Purdue FDU game last night in Columbus followed by the FAU vs Memphis game.

My daughter and I went hoping to get a good game out of the Owls and Tigers. Little did we know we would witness a game that would go down in NCAA history.

Purdue lost that game for one reason, they couldn’t shoot. They had so many wide open 3s and they shot 18% or something from deep. If they just make 1/3 they win by double digits.

Other thing Painter has to do is recruit an athlete or two. His two freshman guards struggled with pressure all night. Didn’t handle the ball well, didn’t make good decisions with it and could not shoot. He has no one on the roster than can get a basket when things fall apart. Everyone is a solid, but not spectacular player.

Will be curious to see what Edey does. He could come back. Does he want this game to be his last at Purdue? One where he couldn’t make anything outside of two feet? If he comes back do some of the other guys stay and sit for one more year?

What do you think about Painter not playing any of his other bigs at the 4 and just playing Gillis, who did nothing. Coaches that play away from their strengths when they are the big dog is so weird to me. I would have had Furst/Newman/Renn sitting on the opposite block and just pounded the shit out of the boards.

Furst played like 8 minutes and had 4 points, 2 boards and I remember one of them being offensive. Instead, they played small ball and it made the guard pressure you mentioned even more effective. Kid has been wasted in West Lafayette.
