First and foremost, the games evolves and rules change regardless if you like it or not. So some of the moves players do what used to be travel, are not now. That is a fact. Some players do indeed still travel and it’s not called.

The hands in the air by the defender I do agree that defenders don’t get the benefit of the call but what you do have to consider are the hands straight up through the whole contact or do they come down toward the end. Although I would debate that sometimes that is because the contact by the offensive players hits the defender in the mid section that causes that. The other thing is did the defender get the offensive player with the body even though the hands were up. Regardless of what the official calls just call it both ways I think that’s the least they could do.

At one coach's show discussion, Graves said he preferred closed scrimmages because the teams can agree to play 60 minutes which gives both coaches a lot of freedom to work various combinations and deep into the bench. An open exhibition is a standard game format. The downside, of course, is that the scrimmages don't help fans get acquainted with the new rosters in the portal era.

That not what I’m talking about. It specifically states you can play 2 exhibitions against any division 1 teams now and I’m asking was that a rule before that you couldn’t.

Woodson is Dead Man Walking. The IU fans booed and chanted “Fire Woodson” last night. It won’t be long before he gets fired or talks into resigning.

What the hell are you talking about?!?! Mike Woodson is doing a HELLUVA job in gloomington!! I think the AD, the Trustees should give him a lifetime contract! I want MORE seasons with Mike Woodson in that job!!!

(y) KEEP MIKE WOODSON!! (y) (y) KEEP MIKE WOODSON!! (y) (y) KEEP MIKE WOODSON!! (y)

Looks like that transition to division 1 4 year transition has now been reduced to 3 years. So a team like USI will now be eligible for NCAA next season.

Hope the MVC is on the phone with St. Thomas ASAP. I think the only holdup on them not offcial being Missouri States replacement is the 2 year postseason ban they have left. That and their new arena isn't finding, but l let's be honest there probably won't ever be many away fans traveling that far.

I don't get the draw of St. Thomas. I'm going to be completely honest; I follow college basketball closely, like near unhealthy levels. And if it wasnt for MVC fans posting about St. Thomas I would have never of this school. I've never seen a highlight. I've never seen a box score. I have no idea what conference they are in, and I pay attention to other conferences. They are like a Belmont fan, people talk about them but I can't prove they exist. It's bizarre, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when someone brings them up

It's a combination of several things.

1. Market. Saint Paul/Minneapolis is starved for a good college basketball team.

2. History of success. They were so good at DIII football their conference kicked them out and they were essentially forced to transition to DI.

3. They have a lot of money behind them. Probably not Big East/WCC money, but closer to Drake/Bradley/Loyola than Indiana State/Murray State.

4. Despite still being under a postseason ban due to the transition period, they recruit very well (again, they have money). Currently sitting at 14-5 with no bad losses.

Assuming the MVCs options if they want to stay at 12 are St. Thomas, NKU, UT-Arlington, and Kansas City, St Thomas is the only one that will be more than another potential Q4 conference game.

1. Market - how will they replace the Gofers as the Twin Cities team? that metro is still a hockey town first, no?

2. They dominated their conference in the "revenue sports" - good success at the national level but I'm not yet sold on them being a sleeping giant

3. agree on $$, endowment-wise, they'd be at the top portion of the WCC, #3 or #4

4. their current MBB team is essentially all upper midwest kids, heavy on minn, but they're not spending a lot of their $$ on air travel, two or three kids from the west coast

with NIL, unlimited transfers and no school loyalty, one could argue that any of the schools you mention could put together a season for the ages and be swirling the drain the next year

Only thing about St Thomas, MVC isn't their long term goal. They most certainly want to move up farther. Football driven school so most likely want to go FBS. Other schools to throw in the mix Milwaukee and still keep an eye out for Toledo.

They are a long way off from FBS (whatever that will look like in a decade) and will face a tooth and nail fight from Minnesota to do so. Near-term moving to FCS and playing the Dakotas every year in the MVFC is attainable.

is hockey or football their "preferred, premier" Div I sport?

1. I understand the whole market thing. But are we just not going to act like the University of Minnesota is smack dab in the middle of Saint Paul/Minneapolis? Not sure the market is there with the big state school already claiming that market.

2. You really are going to make an argument about a successful d3 football program would correlate into a successful D1 basketball program? Crazy take.

3. I'm sure they have money, that's pretty well documented. I wish we had their money. But you have to have Grand Canyon or Liberty money to make a huge splash in D1. I haven't seen there splash or hardly know they exist.

4. Had to look it up but it looks like they have a good coach that has only played and coached at St. Thomas. Good for them. A good coach can ease some of the transition pain. Going from D3 to D1 is an enormous leap, and while they haven't been horrible, they have below .500 in summit league play in their 3+ years there. I'm sure they will get better, but that doesn't merit an invite to the MVC.

all I'm saying is they should have to have some sort of success at D1 before an invite floats their way. It doesn't seem like the MVC is their end game, so I'm not sure Id want to be their spring board in a best case scenario or have another conference anchor in a worse case sceneaeio. In reality,if football is where they want to spend their money (MVC is a basketball first conference) then they do seem to fit the MVFC profile with the Dakota schools. I wouldnt be apposed to a MVFC invite and just see how it plays out

1. Until Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball does anything relevant, the market could allow 2 D1 teams to coexist. Plenty of Des Moines residents root for Drake and Iowa State.

2. St. Thomas has 19 DIII tournament appearances since 1990 and were champions in 2011 and 2016. That's a basketball pedigree that none of the other names floated as MoState replacements have.

4. Their D1 career so has has been under the transition period postseason ban. That's pretty detrimental to their recruiting and hasn't put them on equal footing with their summit league peers. Same reason I didn't look at our new baseball coach and be concerned about his DII success not transferring to DI so far. In the transfer portal era, what kid is going to stick around somewhere with a postseason ban?

Liberty apparently has a $2B endowment...

All I find for Grand Canyon is debt - interesting for a for profit college...

What is their endowment?

What is their final goal for Div I Conference membership? The Big 12? There isn't much room left in the Big "Ten"... replace the NIU Huskies in the MAC?

I remember when the biggest thing to happen to the NCAA in a 10 year period was they moved the 3 point line a few inches. Now every week there is a new rule being added or taken away, craziness

Doug Gottlieb's Green Bay gave up a 28-0 run against Robert Morris. I knew they were bad, but how do you let one dude score 28 straight!?

phoenix haven't been legit since they shoved Darner out the door; 92-80 with him, average at best but 36-101 since...

Gottlieb is still doing his radio show, right? Makes you wonder how vested he is in the HC job
