Nice to see the Gloomington Loosiers getting totally trounced by Iowa right now. I'll take our team and style of play over that garbage any day!

It'll never happen. But is it time for Butler and the MVC to have a serious conversation?

Butler was a solid mid-major, then hire a unicorn/generational coach to elevate them beyond their wildest dreams. That horse took them to a level that they just can't compete at, especially in this environment. The MVC might not be what they want but it's what they need.

Butler would go back to the A-10 before they would ever consider The MVC.

Not denying that. But if Dayton ever leaves the A-10 the MVC becomes a lot more attractive for a Midwest school.

Butler would fit the current MVC schools pretty well, whether they liked to admit it or not

Not sure if their fans would agree. I've seen quite a few yearn for when they were a NCAA tournament staple. There is much more value getting to the tournament every year versus being .500 in a slightly better conference on a yearly basis with the occasional tournament appearance.

Unfortunately for their fans, those decisions are made by people in the Butler admin who's salaries are paid by Big East TV revenues shares, and they're not going to agree to a paycut on MVC payouts just to make their fans happy

Ya, I was going to say that the TV money is driving the bus for Butler to stay where they are for now. It would be a financial loss if they went to The A-10 or MVC.

My former boss is a Butler alum and taught there and he always told me it was the donors that stirred the drink there. If the Big East TV revenues aren't more than those -- granted they'd have to become the cellar dweller, never say never.

Or if UConn ever does get the invite they want and jump, I think the media deal takes a massive hit.

The money would be nearly impossible to turn down. But if I'm a up and coming head coach and IU calls im doing some due diligence on coaching there. That should easily be a top 10 job with Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, etc. and for reason they just can get it right (I ain't complaining) while everyone else gets their coach, wins championships and keeps their coach. IU has been spinning their tires more times than not over the last 30 years. They've turned into the Chicago Bears of college basketball.

Nailed it.

Here's hoping to: "some things never change!”

It's not an attractive job solely because of the fanbase. Look at the personal attacks and insults towards Tom Creans family. IU fans are saying if they'd moved on from Woodson a year earlier they could have had Dusty May, but if someone turns down Louisville they're also going to turn down IU (in my opinion).

Of course it's all fine my me if IU and Butler both spend the next decade+ struggling to finish higher than the bottom 2/3 spots of their respective leagues

An interesting tidbit from the CBS Sports basketball podcast today: industry insiders unanimously agree that the top 3 biggest NIL/portal spenders coming into this season were IU, Arkansas, and Kansas State. All three are currently not projected to make the tournament on their current trajectory

On another topic: officials have ruined basketball. Players travel and stand in the lane forever. In my opinion, a good 1/4 of fouls called should be offensive. Over and over I see the defense just standing there and when the player with the ball bumps him it's called a foul on the defender. I've seen players jump STRAIGHT UP WITH ARMS STRAIGHT UP and it's always a foul on the defense. Offensive players are allowed to clear the defender out so they can get their shot off. Centers are allowed to bully themselves to the basket and also move their pivot foot to get into a shooting position.
This is not the way basketball was invented.

Will be interesting to see if that drives down future spend.

- I swear 60% of the time a player touches the ball it's a travel. It seems like there is this new "hop step" everyone is doing when they catch the ball not he perimeter, I swear it's a travel, but it's never called.

- Drives me nuts when the a defender literally goes straight up and it's a foul. what is he suppose to do in that situation? They need to get the defensive foul calls under control, because right now some games are unwatchable with foul calls
