WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

I snipped it the best I could. Read from left side to right side and then the same for 2nd snippet. There are some things missing like Cannon being off the team. No mention of Caden Huttenlocker, Bruno Alencan, or Josiah LeGree. Obviously this was done before the departure and additions.

Northern Illinois is talking to the new Pac12 about joining as a football-only member.

If true, they will likely become priority #1 for the MVC as our Missouri State replacement. They fit within our footprint and FB will already be parked elsewhere.

NIU has been one of the bottom D1 programs for awhile. I don’t see the MVC being interested at all.

Toledo is way ahead of NIU in everything relating to MBB. The MVC would likely prioritize them.

The initial news break I saw only mentioned NIU, not Toledo. I agree that Toledo would be a better add then NIU if they're on the table. I saw someone say their 10 year average ranking would have put them 2nd best in the MVC over that span, the rest of the MAC just drags them down. Not to mention they would be a new market that gets us on Bally Sports Ohio.

That would be a perfect fit to join the Valley in all sports except football

Rather have Northern Kentucky over NIU.

Really not interested in letting a team that may potentially get a decently sized media deal out of their football conference into the MVC for hoops.
Eh, I don't know if the media deal makes up for the absolute money pit that is FBS football. Out of all potential adds Toledo checks off a lot of boxes and would be a solid addition from an athletic and travel standpoint. My biggest gripe would be the stability of a basketball conference that would feature:

Private non football (3)
Private non scholarship football (2)
Public non football (1)
Public FCS (5)
Public FBS (1)

Tough decision if Toledo is made available

When their conference is finally formed and shopped, they'll likely get a media deal in the $6m-$12m per school per year. That is my conservative estimate. Lets say they get the top end of that -- that's 50 to 90% of the yearly budgets for MVC schools. That doesn't even touch increased revenues from brand affiliation they'd get.

I'm just not interested in introducing that potential level of disparity.

@Braden_Keith
Here's an interesting wrinkle in the conference realignment: the entire Horizon League is apparently exploring a move to D2, where many of the programs thrived for so long. The member institutions' financial challenges has made them open to the move.

They're certainly not going to be the only conference to start thinking about that move.

Let NIU and Toledo join under the condition that they have to schedule the 5 MVC FCS schools annually on a rotating basis and pay minimum of $300K to the schools when they play. If they haven't finished the rotation before they leave the conference (if/when they leave) they still have to finish the rotation or buy out the schools.
